!#$%^&* Aftermarket Fuel Tanks
 

So just putting this out there since I didn't see it anywhere else. So if you track you car absolutely do not use any of the cheap aftermarket fuel tanks on the market. They do not have any baffling in them and will cause starvation issues at anything below about 1/2 tank. Apparently they are cheap for a reason. Don't ask me how I figured this out, aka being stupid and not looking inside the tank before installing it.

You could also just use a holley hydra mat for the pickup.

I hadn't seen the Holley hydramat before. Seems cool, but super expensive. I just purchased a used OEM tank and I'll spend the 15 hours to replace the aftermarket one. About the same cost as the Holley, but a lot more labor. It's pretty much guaranteed to work though as Miata's generally do not have issues with fuel starvation. If I had known of the Hydramat before ordering the fuel tank I would have gone that way, seems like a good solution.

Agreed. I didn't see anyone talking about it, so I wanted to post it up so at least if someone searches on it in the future they know to steer clear of these cheap tanks. Yea considering it's about the same amount of work as an engine swap, it's not ideal. I bought a junkyard tank in good shape and I'm back together, but....

I checked into the hydramat btw, but the way our tanks are I think it would be hard to get it to lay flat. They are also about the same price as a tank, or if you get a big one a lot more.

We got an OEM from Mazda Motorsports.
