3 Hour enduro
Seriously considering entering a 3 hour regional race at Mosport GP track. Done lots of 30 min. W2W stuff, and driven in 35C weather until the tank was almost empty.(approx. 1 hr.) Never anything even close to a sustained 3 hr. event. Stock 1.6 with around 230whp at 12psi. Wastegate is 9psi, @195whp. FM manifold/GT2860RS. Water never exceeds at 200-210F and oil stabilizes @240F.. Fuel cut 7000, shifts usually happen around 6800-6900.
Anybody here ever tracked a turbo miata for this amount of time? Tks. |
Care to give links to actual event? I'm based in Québec and also looking forward to try an enduro event soon.
Does all your oil, coolant and intake temperatures are stabilised in your dataloggings? I'd say go for it, your system seems to be thermally stable so 1h or 3h is non significant. For the tires, what are you using? Any symptoms of them getting greasy? Oil consumption for the engine? |
Sure. Special Invitation From CASC-OR For BEMC Indian Summer 3 Hour Enduro - CASC Ontario Region Message Forums What's the longest you've run? Turbo?
I've run chump sprints (cs3.ca) so eligible for this, plus it gets me my regional licence without the 2 day school. Temps. are fine, but never driven for more than 1 hr., hence my hope that someone else has already done this. Tires were RS3 v2 , 1:37's. Fast lap at 24 minute mark of 30 min. race. They're fine. Running SM7's now though, so dunno on laptimes. Oil consumption is negligible. |
Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) previously known as Mosport - Favorite track… and event. CASC.ON runs bracket road racing for sedans and sports cars (including sprints and endurance). Rules, regulations & Brackets (see Appendix Q, section G for the GT Challenge regs): Road Racing Rules and Bulletins | Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario Region Your nearest bracket is GT4 at 1:35 for CTMP.
Read the refueling section carefully. Refuel in the pits with one person handling fuel one person with an extinguisher both in full safety gear (nomex, helmets, etc.), Driver must be out of the car and car turned off during refuel. 5 gallon cans are used by most. Thoughts on strategy:
Lots of crews do not: practice pit stops including driver change, measure fuel range/tank, they spill fuel, speed in the pits … resulting in slow pit stops, several penalties, too many refueling pit stops. We ran a 99 with the Spec Miata suspension kit, stock engine with a Racing Beat header, aluminum rad, 9” 6UL with 225-45/15 Toyo, race pads. Qualifying laps in the 1:42.6 range (breakout was 1:41 at the time). We averaged 1:52 or 78 mph over 3 hr with 2 stops (it’s amazing how much time is lost to: pit stops/driver change/refueling/ penalties/yellow flags, etc.). Have fun, its a great event. |

Have you ever had trouble with any of the turbo manifold bolts coming loose?

Finished a 3 hour race at Mosport. Car ran fine. RS4's never got greasy and fast lap was a 1:35.6. Went around 1.5 hrs/170km on a tank.
