Aero Guru's Canards
Mocking up some canards. i like the extra large garage vary one like charlies miata has but want to do something different. Can you guys poke holes in this concept on why it will or wont work well. The first pic was my inspiration but i don't know how he keeps the air off the tire so added my own twist to it.

I don't claim to know the first thing about aero but wouldn't you want to cover up that little bit of tire between the top of the cardboard and the bottom of the fender (where it meets the bumper)?
Subbed because I want to make canards too at some point. EDIT: never mind I see the fender flare covers up most of it |
Scooping a lot of air and then trying to cram it through the small hole at back is likely to result in a lot of drag.

That's what I was worried about. And if I leave the back open then I'll be scooping air under the tires. Should I just stick to something more traditional. What do you suggest blackbird I know you have a lot of knowledge on all this.
Thanks for the response. |

Might want to study Competition car Aerodynamics. Its a wealth of information on theory.

Just ordered the book.
Mocked this up to something more traditional should be mostly good right? Also starting to mock up an underbody and diffuser. So more cardboard pictures to come. |
I like this guys videos, and here is a new one on canards

IMO Kyle Drives on youtube is awesome! He deserves way more views than some of the other big youtubers. |
I like your original design. if you found out the area of the opening and the outlet subtract your brake duct from the same area, im sure you would have some pretty good ducting and flow.
maybe even a little vertical gurney flap. stealing this design when I get around to building my canards... there isn't a good spot on my car to grab air for a brake duct. (jdm Toyota cresta front end on a Cressida) |

Have it it narrowed down to these 2 concepts. I am leaning towards the first one with a rolled lip about an inch tall on the outside edge. Opinions?
