Any of you tall guys have pics of your floor mounted seats for reference?

I'm 6' 170lb. Without any padding in the seat it put my helmet about 1.5" below the bar

Why did you do a custom bracket on one side only?

To go as low as possible without cuting/welding the floor. The Recaro bracket on the passenger side caused the seat to sit lop-sided and angle towards the driver's door because of the incline at the tranny tunnel.

I may need to do this. I spent a long time cutting and welding the seat mount that came the car. I still cant get the seat where I want it. I either need to extend the tabs or just start over and remove the stock seat mounts.

I just used a BFH to mash the tranny tunnel. Then slotted my mount and the bottom of my bucket seat touches the floor in the back. I wouldn't be able to actually get lower if I went floor mount and this way I can still put a stock seat back in.

I'm installing my corbeau pro-x1's by drilling straight thru the pan and using a backing plate on the rear mounts and then welding out a stub rail to bolt to in the front. I'm using 1/8" strap material as the floor pan is thin and easy to blow thru, so I'll likely have to box in the front mounts. I'll get a pic when it's finished.

I just finished installing a corbeau forza by drilling the spot welds from the old mount locations, welding in spare roll cage floor plates (5x5)and drilling through them. Sits low and far back. Im 6ft and have plenty of room.

nice, I might need to do this, I spent alot of time making a custom bracket and it is still not right.

why is something so basic such a pain in the ass. I cant think of anything that should be more simple but can be such a headache

I know what you mean. I just remounted mine to try and fix what I f'ed up the first time. I had trouble seeing over the dash before, so I used some 1-1/4" aluminum box tubing to jack up the back a bit, with two bolts going through the seat/box-tubing/floor in the back and two 1" wide 1/8" thick steel plates bent to connect the front of the seat to the original front mounting points. Worked like a charm.

I used some giant fender washers to help prevent the bolts from pulling through the floor or seat, but welded in plates would be better.

i bought two side mounts, hammered the bumps down drilled 4 holes bolted the side mounts down with a big thick washer under neath the car where i bolted it simples

well that is one way to do it. my BFH is more of a back up plan but whatever works.

my seat is almost right, I need to adjust it one more time to move it as far right as possible and, adjust the mounting tabs slight. once everything is square I'm going to weld it up and then duplicate it for the pass side and or a friend that needs bracket as well.

I still need to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Even after notching and with side mounts at their lowest, I still only have like 1/8" between my helmet and the hardtop-- and im only 5'11". Ill have to see if I can drill a lower hole in the bracket to get the seat to go lower--im pretty sure theres room.

what are you mounting the seat rails, side mounts to? what kind of seat? some of the seat mounts have an aggressive offset on the front. if you need to get lower then you need to get rid of that offset. this requires bending the curves and cutting out the center section or making your own or paying someone to make one. like I said, its a pain in the ass.

I don't know what your fab sills are but if you dont have the tools to make one out of heavy steel perhaps you can make something out aluminum and then take it to a welding shop so they can duplicate it out of steel. problem is aluminum will flex when you sit in it so it would be hard to know for sure.

my seat bracket was a big square, I cut off the center supports, left the rear alone. bent the front tabs out to fit the contour of the floor. welded extension tabs to the rear of the front floor mount so I could mount the rails farther back, drilled holes in the seat rail to accommodate the new seat position

Hmm..yeah you may be doing something wrong. I'm using steel straps bolted across the stock humps with my MOMO Start bolted on top of that. I'm 5'9.75", with a good inch above my helmet.

Plop the seat on the floor without any brackets, what's it like then? If it's no good, you need a different seat, helmet, lower floor, or taller roll bar.

Also note how much recline angle you're mounting it at. If you like sitting more upright, that could be causing your problem.

I had mine bolted to the floor last season and was probably 2" under the bar at 5'11". I had a couple new side mount brackets made this season and i'm only 1" from the bar. Not liking them at all. I might cut the factory mounts off and bolt these flat through the floor as well.

Hopefully im not hijacking, and this info helps the OP. The room in back is about a finger thickness, so theres not really much for me to lower back there (if I redrilled holes, they would be oblong and not hold the seat correctly). As you can see, theres a decent amount of recline. What I have decided to do is while on track, i plan to take out the cushion in the seat-- it both lowers me and gives me better side bolstering.

Should I still have more room than I do? I feel like for my height, I shouldnt be having issues. I definitely think that anyone taller than me cant go with a full frame racing seat and are limited to the aluminum options.
