Looked much better when you weren't right on him. It appeared that you apexed early several times when you were on his bumper which really hurt you coming out, especially when you got pushed deep on some right into left handers. For some reason the left turns were all better. Just an observation, not a criticism. That's a lot of track to learn. Good vid!

They basically are... just goto one of the many trackdays offered by various clubs/organizations.

I was there all weekend with the Integra Type R club.. ITR Expo 10

lordrigamus 07-05-2010 06:19 PM

They let you run with them, huh? I though they were mostly club rentals and members only. That's cool then, they do have quite a few on the calendar. I need a proper suspension, brakes and tires before I can go anyway. Not to mention, I need to learn how to drive!:giggle:

Might not be a bad idea to go get my feet wet, though. Got to start somewhere. Plus it's only 30 minutes away from here.:bigtu:

You don't need much for a 1st time out when you are learning how to drive on a track FWIW. Just make sure you have newer brake fluid, more than 50% brake pads left, no dry rotted tires and you can even rent a helmet if you wanted!

AMS is having a track day next Saturday FWIW at Autoban South.

Laps is another group we run with that has 1 monday a Month on the full track (a really great group to learn how to drive with).

Back when I first started to learn how to drive on a track, my car was 100% stock and the only things I addressed was my brake pads and brake fluid since my tires were fine and then I concentrated on learning how to drive. Once I got to intermediate group, I started with upgrades like tires and suspension and then got to the crazy point I am now with doing 30 to 40 track days a season and about 20 to 25 w2w races a season as well!

Yeah, I'll have to keep that in mind. I'll have to try to make it up there one of these days.

I love that track. I drove 2 sessions in an NA Miata a couple years ago.

buffon01 07-05-2010 09:53 PM

That was a N/A?

every time I would come up on him I would lose bit on the exit since his cornering speed was bit slower. You are right about the early apexing, this was still early in the day with lots of corners to learn. Thanks for the constructive input. This is N/A , supercharger is sold

Do a search on youtube for SM autobahn and watch the lines the Spec Miata's take to help you as well. Watch brake lights (or lack of them) as well for the cars in front to help as well. I have to admit it took me a few years before I mustered the courage to go flat out through lots of spots at Autobahn but it is what makes you faster in an NA Miata!

mm, I like it with the added youtube vuvuzela sound.

this is what i was told to do around blackhawk, harder than it sounds lol, what kind of lap times does your sm run around autobahn?

chris101 07-07-2010 07:07 AM

I have my own video from Autobahn I can dig up if you like (in car video) from either my SM or my husband driving the Infiniti G20 (same lines regardless).

On the Full Track I run consistent 2:59s and 3 minute laps
On the North Track I run consistent 1:17s
On the South Track I run consistent 1:44s or 1:45s (best lap time there is 1:43.710)

BTW: I did a quick search on NASA Autobahn and a bunch of stuff came up so maybe you just aren't searching properly?
