Best Budget Track Suspension Set up?

I am in the market for a suspension set up. My car being 100% stock i have multiple possibilities... so basically what I'm asking is, should i spend a good amount of money of some very nice coilovers or just stick to koni yellow and gc and use the rest for wheels, tires, sway bars, etc.

18psi 03-17-2016 12:50 PM

unless you already have koni/gc, then don't get that junk.

save up for proper suspension, and if you must run something now, run some budget billies

.....all of this has been discussed to death, so please don't be lazy and use the search function.

How much track/street (by %) are you gonna do? also what is your budget? Are you going to race or get real serious in HPDEs?

Plenty of threads around to search and read up on good setups...

FM vmaxx work well as a budget setup.

Xida's work better but cost more.

Don't buy raceland or other shitty budget setups. You're throwing money away at this level.

Xida's or bust. It is worth every penny to save up and just go with Xida's to start with.

Budget Bilstein Ballers - ClubRoadster.net

Read that thread, start to finish. Then read it again.

Sorry for creating another thread about this subject... but anyways probably like 40% street 60% track driving. And i was looking to get a coils, sway bars, and other miscelaneus suspension parts for under or around $1,700-$2,000.

And i have heard good things about Xida's but should i just run bilsteins and do other things to the car as well? And don't worry i at least know enough about it to never even look at racelands...

If your budget for coils + shocks is sub-1000, go find someone's takeoffs. Something like the factory MSM package (~350 + shipping range) or someone's takeoff FCMs (~800-900ish).

Do not buy anything in-between $1000 and $2000; it's all garbage.

If your budget is above $2000, just cut Emilio a big, fat check and get Xidas.

If you're just starting out, run the stock setup for a year or really try to track down some MSM takeoffs. You'll quickly find that a good suspension rolls into a bunch of other issues really quick, such as not being able to actually sit in the car and control it (bucket seats + harnesses = $600-800 per side) and that you need to upgrade to wider wheels and tires to actually use your suspension's available grip ($1k-1.5k easily).

I've done a decent amount of track driving so im not a beginner there.

Also I have a sparco evo seat im going to put in and also i am buying RS3's to put on my 949 6ul's.

So why are the $1000-$2000 coilovers all junk? Including the Koni/GC set up, i had always heard good things about them and others like tokico and others.

cyotani 03-17-2016 01:37 PM

Only thing people say competes with xidas.

this fits the budget and might be a good option for you.
https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-par...-option-88029/

I had koni/gc with extended top hats and hated them. They were way to stiff and didn't handle well.

I picked up a set of used gen 1 xidas 700/400 with helpers and absolutely love them.

I say run the "budget billstein" setup and save up money for xidas.

18psi 03-17-2016 01:37 PM

read the threads people are talking about where it's discussed in detail

if you're not a newbie to track, then you should be saving up for xida and the like and not wasting money

Dunning Kruger Affect 03-17-2016 02:13 PM

You heard good things about Tokicos? From whom? The icy hot stuntaz at Mnet, CR, and Mazda Roadster?

Tokico is in a race with KYB to be the worst shock available for the Miata.

Stop posting, start reading. Basically find any topic made by either Emilio or Savington and just read.

Girz0r 03-17-2016 02:14 PM

I considered fm springs\tokico illuminas per 18's quote of... "daddy needs comfort" :dunno:

18psi 03-17-2016 02:44 PM

I loved my tokicos for daily driving, and will always recommend them to people for daily driving. I've driven just about every popular setup out there including xidas, fcm's, etc. so spare me the drama.

Track use though, whole different ballgame. FCM and Xida are hotness when it comes to that.

Savington 03-17-2016 02:46 PM

MSM Bilsteins+sleeves+springs for <$1000 or XIDAs. There is nothing worth buying in between those two.

x_25 03-17-2016 03:05 PM

Xida without helper springs - $1700
Racing beat front bar - $165
Stock rear bar - free
Diy or 949 end links - $40-$120
Total ~$2000. Done.

Really though, spend the extra $200 for the helpers.

(This is my eventual plan. I didn't do my research and am on Konis with summit springs... Only have $450 into the shocks/springs/sleeves though)

Jack Kun Aguero 03-17-2016 03:07 PM

Okay, well i guess it is time to read up and get some bilsteins and start saving for xidas. sorry for beating a dead horse guys.

I would completely skip the blisteins and just save up for the Xida's. Money spent on them is money that is not going towards Xida's, and Xida's are where you want to be.

cyotani 03-17-2016 03:20 PM

A side note about the xida investment. Everyone wants them so they hold their value extremely well. If you don't put many miles on them you can run them for 3 or so years and probably get 80% of the purchase price back if you part out your car.

That was part of the selling point on me pulling the trigger on them.

Jack Kun Aguero 03-17-2016 03:24 PM

so im guessing used ones are pretty hard to come by.
