Best Track and Auto X Roll Cage
I just bought a Track\Auto X dedicated 1990 Miata and was wondering which roll cages are the best. I don't have any welding experience so I prefer a bolt on, but would hire someone local to weld one in if needed.
Here are a couple I've been looking at. Spec Miata Cage (Weld In) - http://www.bethania-garage.com/cages.htm Bolt in - http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda...t/30-1009.html |
Your going to get some differing opinions on this, but most would say that if your going to DD your car, stay away from full cages. They can be dangerous in a collision without a helmet.
Hard dogs SCCA approved roll bars are a really good option. Do some research, use the search button. Edit: I just reread and saw the car was DEDICATED. If so, scratch everything I just said. I defer to the guys that have cages. |
there is a thread on cages literally 4 threads down.

I would go with a custom cage rather than a bolt in, try contacting your local club racing forum and see who's been doing all the cages around your area for those cars.

Thanks. Is the one made by MiataCage.com a good one? Seems like most local shops around here are recommending HD, but none have done a full cage only roll bars.

Never let it happen again. Thanks for being a man, you've made this forum a better place for all.

hustler you crack me up. there should be a best-of hustler thread.
if you get a cage, just be aware that you are making a decision about track vs autox. you are adding couple hundred pounds of metal, some of it high up. you will always get beaten in autox by somebody with a kirkey seat no soft top no hardtop no nothing. i'm in the same boat, i have full cage but like to autox waddagonnado |
I thought miatacage.com states the cage is right around 100lbs?
yes... looks like it is Features * Lightweight weld in kit. Approximately 100lbs. * Landing perches, 14 gussets and all landing plates included. * Partially notched – 11 of the tubes are pre notched. * Computer controlled bending ensuring accurate bends every time. * Comes complete with 29 page installation guide with over 55 pictures. |
I had a AWR cage in my Spec. It is partially built when delivered. I felt it was a great cage. However this was my first caged car. I also did most of the prep work on my own before dropping off the car to the installer. I don't like the idea of the bolt in cages. They are generally constristing and not as able to be customized with out a bunch of work. If you ever plan on taking out your dash then you will have to remove the bolt in cage. The miata cage and AWR or even a cutom will allow you to remove the dash as a whole. Just some things to think about.
As someone mentioned do your research before you buy. There is nothing more of a waste of your money than having to buy a part like this twice because you changed your mind, due to lack of research. Have a great day, Hared |
