We've got one of the TCM tops sitting in our shop if anyone's looking to pick one up in CO. No shipping. Brand new.
DG Motorsports might have something, although he tends to go for a higher level of fit and finish (and thus cost) than superlight track guys look for. |
+1 for TCM.
10 lbs bare top, 20lbs with lexan and all seals. Watertight in the rain, when installed correctly. Also got one of their 6 lb trunklids (not installed in pic). https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1423411641 |
My experience with Treasure Coast Miata hardtop. Fully assembled (windows, seals, etc.) in black gelcoat, the hardtop weighed 20.2 pounds!!
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1437969513 The Snugtop brand top I removed weighed 54.6 pounds. That a savings of 34.4 pounds -- up high!!:party::party: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1437969513 The front brackets were regular Spec Miata pieces: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1437969513 I fabbed brackets for the side and back from 1" x 1/8" aluminum strap: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1437969513 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1437969513 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1437969513 Mounted up: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1437969513 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1437969513 What to do with all that black gelcoat? Skull and pistons, of course (#world's_coolest_grandpa): https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1437969513 |
Those brackets are nice. TCM should offer something like that in the install kit.
My understanding is that the TCM top has gone through a few different iterations. Mine isn't totally water tight. I have redone the placement of the seals twice and its good enough to not bother me while driving but not good enough for the car to be stored on the street. For a track car that probably doesn't matter. |
Anybody else just get email about mazda motorsports lightweight top? Looks like it's $850 + $125-$180 for shipping... 16 lbs...

Yep, just got it. Lacks seals, so plan on doing something about that for trailering.

Mazda Motorsports is now offering some sort of non SM legal hard top now... for $850.
Not sure who makes it for them, but here's the info. Mazda Motorsports Fiberglass Hardtops |
I hope they increase the size of the window. You might not be able to just trim the fiberglass back if it is a sandwhich core part.

DG Motorsports, who makes the top, is also working on a "street" top which will include seals.

Not much you'd really need for that to make it streetable. TCM sells the side seals on their own.

'90 - '05 Miata Side Window Seal Kit for Light Weight Hard Top Edit: Looking at the pictures closely the TCM seals definitely do not fit this top. |
Unless you've found better pictures at a different angle, I'm not seeing that. You'd still have to drill the side to attach but it looks to be the same arch as a normal hard top.
|
The TCM side seals are just OEM soft top side channels and seals. Nothing special. And they didn't fit all that well either, especially the rearmost section -- ended up using a bit of RTV between the channel and the hardtop in that section.
Honestly, for a track car that's never street driven and only trailered, pool noodles or pipe insulation between the window and hardtop works fine. Arrange a group buy with your buddies and you should be able to save a bunch of freight charges. |
The treason coast hardtop is not a direct copy of a regular hardtop and there is a channel that the brackets for the seals fit into.
