Suggest you get some aluminum flanged air ducts from Aircraft Spruce, make a thin aluminum backing plate, and rivet it all together.
Aircraft Spruce Duct Flanges

+1 on using aircraft parts. That's where you go for high quality and light weight. Most of the OEM parts on the Miata are near-aerospace spec. It's what our Miata's deserve.

The aluminum ducts mentioned above have another advantage . . . they have a radiused lip.

The pictures of super-Miata show SCAT ducts. Aircraft Spruce is a good source for that too (although I prefer SCEET). Also, I've noticed that Aircraft Spruce tends to have lower pricing on AN fittings than what you typically find at the automotive speed shops.

Anyway, I've never regretted value-priced quality. My $0.02.

$8.75 is not bad at all...I need to decide if I wanna put it there in the long run or not. The more I look at it the more I don't like how exposed it is to the elements.

Ducting comes in today, if I get to HD for large zip ties, I'll install the ducts and take some pictures of my mounting. I may end up putting them below the bumper on a piece of squished 3" pipe.

Saw this a local tire shop, and thought it was interesting. This is for their local short track car. NACA ducts in the rad ducting. Flip the whole assembly around 180*. The narrow part obviously fits up into the mouth of the bumper.

That is a great idea. This way you can have something in front to block any debris that may get sucked into the mouth. I might have to try that when it comes time to do my ducting.

Have a great day,
Jared
