Well after a bit of a nightmare year, which included wouldn't start when cold (buy ez start); overheating problems (take thermostat out); running too cool (as thermostat is out - block off radiator using cardboard then put new thermostat back in); hood flying off (concentrate more), electrical fire (rewire) lil' turbo finally showed her potential last weekend at Summit Point, WV

949 racing twin disc racing clutch
Wiseco pistons with Eagle H-beam connecting rods
Mazdaspeed crankshaft with ACL racing bearing

GT2871RS turbo
750cc Injector Dynamic injectors
Deatschwerks 300lph intank pump
Turbos-smart Comp-gate 40mm waste gate
AEM EMS v1 (30-1710 box)
AEM EBC solenoid
Monster mad max front splitter
Supermiata GTC 200 wing
repainted hotrod flat black

- still on Spec Miata bilstein shocks, 7" wheels and shaved Toyo RA1s but upgraded brakes to TrackSpeed BBK 11.75 with DTC60s

Tuned to 302 rwhp / 284 lb/ft torque on E85 at 21 psi (more on this later)

This was only the third time I'd driven the car at speed so i was very timid on the brakes so not to flat spot the tires and very very gentle on the accelerator until lined up straight as scared of the turbo boost with 302 hp on 7" spec miata tires.... but in a straight line ..........zooooom, zooooooooooom!

There was really no need to heel and toe ......except it does sound good!

I felt bad (afterwards) giving the first Porsche the pass and then out accelerating him .... but he was faster than me in the corners (as I was being so gentle) so i gave him and easy pass between 2 and 3. When i get more confident with the car, I'll get him in the corners as well - no problem


Next steps now that car is running well:

Retuned off E85 onto premium gas (done - more later)
Winter project - upgrade to 949 Xida coilovers; 949 15 x 10" 6ULs; hoosiers and fender flares

It might be the angle of the camera, and it might be that you were just taking it easy but it looks like you're mid-track in T7 which would hurt your entry to T8 a lot. I'm used to being way left in 7, allowing for more go pedal.

Hey Stinkycheezmonky - Great name!

I reviewed the vid and the line looks ok (ish!) to me - I am taking it easy but my front right wheel isn't too far away from the right hand side of the track at turn in .... so probably just the camera angle. On a side note, i do run the midtrack line at 7 when racing my spec miata to (i) defend against others and (ii) even thou flat all the way from exit of 6 to 10, the spec miata race car doesn't need to go far right to take the corner

I'm not sure using a spec miata was the smartest idea as the cars are generally much more expensive than a later date donor car..... but I did it mainly for ease, convenience and full roll cage. Hind sight is a wonderful thing as probably much cheaper to buy a newer donor car, strip out, weld in new cage and used saved money for better suspension and big wheels

1 - because it started off as a spec miata
2 - because the build budget effectively doubled as we progressed - little things like a 6 speed mazda speed transmission and new {racing} clutch soon add up ....... and I ran effectively out of money
3 - been having soooooo many troubles this year that not prepared to spend more money on the suspension and wheels until solved teething problems - hopefully we are now there and it's now worth while investing mo money
