MY09 RX8 oil filter use on the miata
For what its worth, I came across this and figure I would share it. I saw some chatter on the subaru boards about this, and since the miata uses the same filter as pretty much every EJ series subaru it may be relevant to some who are still using the stock location for the oil filter on their miata.
Typically I use Bosch filters when I can't get WIX, so the Bosch number for the miata is 3300, same as most subarus. The 09 RX8 filter from bosch is 3323. Now its the same over all diameter, same thread size, its just taller, and I suppose provides more filter element. But you can use any RX8 equivalent filter your hear desires.
Some comparison pics below and tech data, factory mazda and factory subaru but you get the point.
I installed one last oil change and I have not seen a drop in pressure or any out of the ordinary, so seems to good so far.
Most of my subaru buddies have jumped to the RX8 equivalent filters for their cars and have not seen any negatives.
