Cheapest Lightweight Seat?

I need a seat for my track car. Need something as light as possible (no recliner, etc.) I'm 6' tall, and weight around 185.

I don't need much, just some improved hip and lower back support over stock. I will be using a 4 point harness to help, attached to a Hard Dog DD harness bar.

What is the cheapest option out there? I need a seat and mounts...

Corbeau Forzas are cheap as are Ultra-Shield Spec Miata seats.

Honestly... go to events and sit in seats first. You need to figure out what you fit into first and go from there.

At 5'7" and 150lbs.... I hated fitment in the SM Ultrashield. Side bolsters got in the way of arm movement, odd fitment all over.

Search fail.

Love the hell out of my spec ultrashields. My buddy hates it and loves his sparco sprint 5.

summitracing, drag racing aluminium seats are the cheapest

You should reconsider that if you intend to run track days, because 4-pt harnesses won't pass tech with some (many?) groups. At minimum get a 5-pt.

I used to have a 4pt with submarine belts - which is technically a 6 pt. I can just bolt the submarines up to the floor...

Found a Summit Racing poly seat for $35 that looks decent - gonna check out the aluminum drag seats next. Thanks for the heads up jacob.

I prefer the Ultrashield Pro Race seats. The side supports are not as high as with the Spec Miata seats, plus they have much better shoulder support. I did modify the side supports a bit to completely eliminate interference with arm movement using a big ass plumber's wrench and two pieces of wood. The seats are bolted to the OEM mounting locations using 1.5" wide strap steel, about as cheap and effective as possible.

Do not use the poly in your car. They are not meant for things like that but more for off road stuff like sandrails and various other things.

Too much flex out of the Poly seat under lateral accel?

rharris19 05-27-2010 09:11 AM

They have little to no support and are uncomfortable as hell even with a cover on.
