Default I keep cracking windshields

The rocks here in AZ have always been a bit of an issue, but moving from HPDE/TT to w2w has made the problem a bit extreme. First race weekend I cracked a brand new windshield on one side, next race weekend I got a decent crack on the other. There's also a ton of chips and pitting already. Granted, both weekends were at the same track, but I can't really see the problem decreasing at the other local-ish tracks, which are basically all rock everywhere they aren't asphalt. I'd really like to not change a windshield every month or two...

It seems the best options are the SuperMiata poly windshield, glass with tearoffs on top, or the SuperMiata poly with tearoffs on top as an extreme. A bit worried that even with the coating on the poly, it'll get scratched to hell in quick order. There also doesn't seem to be a lot of online material on installing poly, so I'm not sure how difficult it is to install myself. On the other hand, I can't seem to find reputable tearoffs pre-cut for an NB Miata, so I'd likely have to get a generic kit and pay a shop that knows what they're doing to install it.

Anyone have success getting a windshield to last for a reasonable amount of time (whatever that means) in the desert? It's pretty normal out here to have a large amount of rocks thrown up at you a few times a race. Asking around the paddock there didn't seem to be any clear winning strategy, but I'm not sure that means much.

I too cracked my windshield 2 months ago. On the highway at maybe 60mph and heard a nice "Clack". I knew it instantly but couldn't find the crack for like 3 minutes.
Sorry to hear. I got safelite to repair it but I'll be looking at similar options if it gets worse.

It might be worth a shot to try and apply a paint protection film to a new windshield. The super thick type that is self healing when left in sunlight.
