Forced Air Helmets/blowers
Hi MTn members,
Need some recommendation on forced air helmets and fresh air blowers. Do these systems work to keep the driver cool in the helmet ? Which blower / variable speed or just ON/OFF do you use? Helmet inlet - is top better than side ? Advantages /cons? Thank you for sharing your experience or insights. |
They're not as good as opening your visor, but if you're keeping your visor down like you should, they're better than nothing. Top vs. side is more dictated by what seat you use and clearances on that side of the car than anything, IMO, though if you have tight roof bars, you may run into issues with top mount. I actually had to cut one of my X bars out of the roof because I would make contact with the hose fitting when tilting my head forward. My full containment seat will not work with a side mount. I run an All Star remote blower with an Impact SuperCharger helmet, basic on/off switch. I don't know that it offers any real cooling, but it at least helps cut fogging and gives you the illusion that you're being cooled.

My Roux helmet has a cool pad built in. Uses cool shirt style disconnects. I wonder if you can use something like that.

I've always liked having my visor open for fresh air especially here in AZ where it's so hot. I drive with it down now because it's safer but constantly breathing hot air sucks, so I optioned my new helmet with side air inlet when I ordered from Stilo. Haven't been able to try it out yet though.
