fuel cell Q's?
 

For those who are using a fuel cell, which cell did you choose and where did you place it? A pic would be great!

I think that I use about 8 gals in a 30 min race; so a 10 gal cell with a fuel trap would work. I found this: http://www.fuelsafe.com/store/enduro...lls/ed112.html It looks like you can buy a bulkhead wiring kit and then adapt the oem pump/regulator assy into the trap/collector.

I am thinking about placing it low in the right trunk compartment, and will then relocate the battery to a space just behind the passenger compartment bulkhead.

Three seconds with a tape measure will tell you that this is impossible. The only place you would be able to fit a 10-gallon cell in the back of a Miata would be between the frame rails under the trunk, and that's a worse location than the factory tank.

I have two questions:
1. What's wrong with the factory tank?
2. What's wrong with putting the fuel cell in the passenger seat area, like every EP car?

-SCCA wants a FIA FT-3 cell in it if I'm going to run SPM.
-passenger compartment with a bulkhead would be an excellent location.

Putting it in the passenger compartment is your best bet. It allows the fuel to be:

- lower than stock tank for better Cg
- better PMI (polar moment) so the car stays consistent throughout session.

Stock tanks & fuel cells in the rear make the rear end do funny things as the fuel level drops - either you align it with 1 gallon in the cell and the car handles like crap until the end of the race (and then the tires are shot) _or_ align it with half tank and then work with an inconsistent understeer / oversteer.

Passenger seat location even works with the 12" rule (if you need it). Just a bit of the PITA to fab up a bulkhead. Also, you get the added aero advantage of less dead space volume if you do it right.
