Similar to what some other people said, with an aftermarket ECU it isn't too hard to set protection parameters up. I recently got the CEL piped into my Speeduino so I can trigger that if a parameter goes out of the range that I like. It's handy to be able to get some feedback without having to have MSDroid up on my phone.
