Holley Hydramat-any users?
I was just wondering if anyone had used Holley Hydramat in a miata. If so what size did you choose for the OEM gas tank?
|
I haven't had fuel starvation issues, so it's a solution looking for a problem. Fuel starvation isn't common on tracked Miatas.
|
I've only had fuel starvation once in the 4 years I've been on track with it. It was mid corner and the car very slowly died. Don't think this is needed unless you literally need every last drop of gas.
|
I've been down to what I think was maybe 1 to 2 gallons remaining and it still was not getting any fuel starve.
What's the application you're looking to use this for? |
No issues down to the last gallon with NA/NB chassis. That is not needed.
I have seen the fuel tank pots break and that will cause starvation issues. |
Isn't the sock on the pump already the same thing?
When testing, we could pump out less than 2 quarts after running down to a stumble. |
One of the previous owners of my car sucked at life, so my car had some crazy fuel starving issues. He basically had the fuel sock jammed up against the driver's side wall of the fuel tank, so it would starve really bad on left hand turns, even with the tank half full. I had to run to the gas station three times at the last track day before I fixed it.
I have since replaced my sad, crusty, special sock with a fresh, soft, clean, OEM sock and have had zero issues since. |
If you are fuel starving on a Miata your sock is either on wrong, or a shitty non-OEM sock.
|
We've ran our Chump Car to nearly dry at VIR. There was literally less than a cup of fuel in the bottom of the tank.

This guy here felt the need...
Kansas City Region of the SCCA ? View topic - Off Season Winter Car Projects 2015 I had starving issues when at 1/2 tank on a walbro sock, I replaced it for OEM and I still have the issue at 1/4 tank or less. I think I might have fucked up the fuel pump install, though I thought I had the pump at the lowest point on the pump housing I must have it too low or too high... I just stay over 1/4 for the time being, lol |
Same here. Last time in my NA, I think the gas light was on almost the entire last session with no problem.
|
More importantly, are you finally going to drive the damned thing?
 |
Maybe some of you guys can chime in on my situation. iv pulled my pump out 11 billion times at the track literally every session looking to see why my car fuel starves with less thank half a tank. oem pump (have also tried a replacement denso pump) NEW oem sock pointing to the bottom of the tank and the baffles are all in place, and will fuel starve after left hand turns.
im thinking i need more fuel pump for my setup but im not entirely sure. The hydramat seems like it would help. thoughts? |

It's always the sock. Either OEM or the one that ships with Walbro kits. Miatas don't fuel starve, period. We keep new sock in our track spares and make sure the hard top is easy to remove so it can be quickly swapped at the first hint of starve with normal fuel level. Seems like they last 2-3 years when run exclusively on E85. |

I"ve starved my miata tank, but my exocet also has the tank canted a bit different then a miata, uses more fuel (v8) and pulls many Gs.
