How low do you run your tires?

Fronts have slightly more tread, but not by much at all. This is the first time i have ran nt01s this low and was wondering how much longer you guys would run them, or till they cord..

rharris19 03-16-2010 06:24 PM

Everything I have read and talked to people about is that they run them until they cord. They stay pretty consistent too. That part is supposed to be the best.

tann3r 03-16-2010 06:29 PM

You can still see the dimples on the outside half, cant really tell onthe inside half. the larger parts (already worn away) indicates 4/32, the smaller part (visible in your pics) indicates 2/32.

I typically run them till they cord, I dont really notice much of a drop of.

You get away with that? Would never happen here when it rains your done, and theres always cops everywhere.

tann3r 03-16-2010 06:43 PM

I'm guessing that those are his track tires...

rleete 03-16-2010 08:20 PM

Hell, I've run street tires until they show cord.

Carthusiast 03-16-2010 08:55 PM

If they are anything like the RA-1 (Which I have heard they are?) then you can get away with running them to the cords. RA-1's are fastest at Laguna when they are at like 1/32nd and some heat cycles.

Good to hear. I have a set of used R888's I'm looking forward to trying out, and plan on running down to the cords, although I hear they don't last as well with a bunch of heat cycles like the NT-01s and RA-1s. Hence the change back to RA-1s in SM.

240_to_miata 03-16-2010 09:44 PM

i got my RA-1's for free from a miata team (friend of a friend etc). They were pretty beat up when i got them but you could just barely see the deep tread lines. I ran them for 2 seasons of autox (about 10-20 autox) until they were BALD. you could tell the difference in wear. They lost a lot of their strait line traction towards the end.

The stiff sidewalls of Rcomps STILL made it 10000 times better than my allseasons

My experience tells me that the r888's are like normal race tires in that they are fast when new, not bald like the ra1's.

ApexOnYou 03-16-2010 11:29 PM

The 888s get significantly less heat cycles before they drop off over the RA1s- RA1s can run over and over and over. Seems to be as significant as a third. All depends on how harsh you drive them, I've seen drivers who could get 10 cycles out of RA1s only get 3 or 4 max out of 888s.

Irrelevant to the OP lol.

cjernigan 03-16-2010 11:34 PM

I would run them until they show some cord.

thesnowboarder 03-16-2010 11:48 PM

Thanks all, i ask because ive got a two day weekend at laguna seca next month and wont be able to afford tires before then. I am curious if they will last.

Tim Broughton 03-17-2010 12:06 AM

I definitely need to look into NT-01s once my RE-11s are dead. I got a really solid deal on the 'Stones new, so we'll see how well they hold up, but I'm really liking everything I'm hearing about the Nittos as far as grip and how well they hold up to wear.

cjernigan 03-17-2010 12:40 AM

How many sessions?

5/day, approx 20min each.

Nick, you should be fine, just don't lock your brakes. They will probably work alright until they cord.

Mobius 03-17-2010 01:21 AM

Your rubbers are so thin! You must get great feedback and feel.

For you, I make one time deal. Trade lives with me for ... two days. You do swim lessons and grilled cheeses and broccoli, and I will do the Corkscrew.

PM me for address, yada yada.

Carthusiast 03-17-2010 04:04 PM

run them on the left side at Laguna.

You can also borrow mine if you need, but they are on 8's not 9's.
