Can't beat free.

Pieces that size are often chucked in the recycle bins at work. I fish out the larger ones for use on my small lathe and mill at home.

I know this is a little old, but can this be done with the stock ECU? I blocked mine off last night and cant get the car to stay running. If I turn the lights or fans on it dies. I am hoping it is something else so I dont have to pull the TB back off

I am getting ready to do this. My idle valve is old old old, and it idles retarded. Sometimes if i am lucky it will settle low. It is usually 1500+. Good write up.

curly 10-04-2010 12:52 PM

Ryan, it'll require a little extra idle. Adjust it up and see if it helps. Also, drive around and let it warm up, this "mod" does make it idle rough when cold.

I'm assuming you've removed the valve on the intake manifold as well? You're on your own for hose routing if you haven't.

Well, I did promise pics, however, my LX-3 is currently lent to a friend so all I've got is a phone pic.

I had a plate water jet cut and also cut off all the unused bosses (The weight savings is negligible unless you come from the 8K road bike crowd).

Can't comment on how the car runs yet as the MS isn't hooked up the exhaust manifold is playing paper weight at the moment, however, it looks pretty at the very least.

oddly enough it was two wires hooked up backwards on the transmission...and probably the battery terminal was loose. It runs fine now, I had to play with the idle alittle bit. I left the valve on the intake for now, the hoses are blocked off. Thanks for the response curly

2 Attachment(s)
Bracket numero deuce.

Attachment 193804
Making these for Wayne_Curr and he's sending me his RFLBOV.
Once I stop being lazy I'll measure it up in Catia and post a picture of it for y'all.
This was all done in roughly 45 minutes with a angle grinder, drill press w/HF mill vice, and a bench grinder w/wire wheel.

Thank you!

RyanRaduechel 10-05-2010 12:39 AM

I made mine in about 4 minutes with some tin snips a drill and an old metal cabinet. Although I still havent made the intake plate

curly 10-05-2010 01:02 AM

I have a button that bans you from mt.net. I win.

WonTon 10-05-2010 01:17 AM

Curly! i know you are only exsperienced with the 1.6 TB, im thinkin bout doing this to my TB. can i delete the IAC but keep the TPS? my car is a 95 with a 96 TB if that makes a difference!

EDIT: wait i remember doin a IAC delete on a friends S/C set up but we didnt ditch the TPS when we did the supercharger install, i guess i just answerd my own question!

curly 10-05-2010 06:00 AM

Yup you can. I was there and am not currently using the TPS, so I took it off too. It's completely separate on the 1.6.

RyanRaduechel 10-05-2010 12:45 PM

lol yes you do have that button and therefore you do win, hey you never got back if you have the heater control thing...

WonTon 10-05-2010 01:15 PM

fuck yeah, that sucker is goin bye bye! which means one less bung to weld to the IC pipes! lol

I ditched the coolant lines on my TB years ago as the car only sees warm weather, however, I'd hesitate if you drive the car in cooler weather (below 45 deg?).

The coolant prevents ice build up in the TB.

This said, I'm not sure if even on a sub 32 deg day the intake temps would ever get that cool due to the turbo.

no I dont think it ever gets that cold, well maybe late at night or really early in the morning. But I get to work at 4 am so if it does get that cold it would be before I get to work or when my car is in the parking lot...hopefully...

like I said, I'm not sure if an FI car ever has intake temps cold enough ... accept maybe in the first 5 minutes after start up.

I wouldn't be concerned. I've driven my car in early November without issue and in MA it's getting pretty cold by then.

Bringing this back as I ran across it in a search and I am taking care of this, along with a bunch of other small projects right now.

I have a JRSC car with a large vacuum hose running to the large connector at the valve. I think I need to keep this hose connected to bypass the supercharger when out of boost.

Has anybody removed the valve under the dummy throttle body as shown in this thread? If so, how was the hosing routed? Picture? Thanks.

curly 05-04-2012 05:14 AM

I don't know enough about superchargers to tell you, but that valve is the IAC. Or idle air control. I think. Anyways, it's function is essentially to act as a secondary throttle body, controlled by the ECU to maintain idle during different load conditions, such as when using power steering or air conditioning.

For routing, you'd want to remove the hose, and cap it off on the intake. I was able to use that port on the intake for my wastegate signal, so problem solved.
