Spyker fulfills essentially the same "need" as Prada or Rolex. These are all brands which appeal to those consumers who elect to define themselves by projecting a certain image which might be described as "fashionable" or "exclusive." None of these objects perform the specific function for which they were ostensibly created any better than an equivalent object costing 1/10 as much, nor do they really need to claim to. It is the perfect embodiment of form over function.

I consider this to be functionally inseparable from hipsterism or putting huge wings and tiny wheels on FWD Hondas.

It's ludicrous at $15k, no question, but if Katech can sell 10,000 of them to Bultaco for their triumphant return to high performance forklift production and next week they cost $1500/ea, then they become a really interesting, viable option.

And the same qualities that make V4s the correct engine configuration for sport bikes make them excellent for small sports cars, too. They're more compact than an inline 4, while still having the ability to be even fire and having enough cylinders to make power. They package tightly against the firewall for weight distribution (or high and forward with very tight mass centralization in a sport bike). Plus they sound wicked awesome.

Let it be said that I would rather put an engine out of the Erik Buell Racing 1190RS in a small light car (not miata... like, locost-style car). My dad had an 1125CR and it was a monster. Can't imagine what another 40 hp would be like.

I know this is out of the question for any of our pockets, but I found this in the latest issue of Racecar Engineering Magazine. I don't know what the price is but other than that it has good numbers.

Why can't I put my alternator on a heim like that?

Do it!

Certainly not as pretty, but that's how I like it. Heimens make life good.

I still need to find a larger alternator pulley, technically. But horray for rebuildable, USA made, 100amp, <$100 1 wire alternators.

Actually I think the OEM Mazda way of tightening the belt is slick.

JayL had one on his old Miata but the pic was deleted.

I tried to replicate it with McMaster parts, but the space is tight so now I have some paper weights. If you figure it out, I'd be interested. One less thing to potentially break.
