It was ZXTex. He put what he thought were 9.0 or 8.6 slugs in his motor, tacked an S4/2871R and a whole bunch of meth onto it, and blew it up inexplicably. Tore it all apart and someone noticed the big dome on the pistons - Supertech had sent him either a 10:1 or 11:1 slug.

You cannot just stuff a bunch of meth into it and run high compression. You need to run E85 if you want big compression and big power. If I ever get around to building an E85-specific shortblock, it will get 11:1 slugs.

FYI, when Eliminator switched his car over to E85 he bumped the compression from ~8.8 to ~9.4:1. He regrets not going higher - I believe his words were "10.5:1 minimum". That's a 600whp car.

so what is the weak point on a BP at 600hp? head gasket? rods again?

I was actually thinking of going high compression as well with E85 around 10:1-10:5, after what you just said makes me even more interested.

y8s I don't think rods will be an issue at that power level (IE Carrillo Rods) or something similar, Erin told me that there could be issues at that power level I will let her chime in if she see's this because I don't exactly remember what it was.

Honestly, if I were going above 500 hp I'd probably go with the Carrilo rods, just because they've been proven above 800whp. But that'd just be me playing it safe. Mtuned rods might be ok, they claim to be tested to 600whp... but you'll be shooting for 640whp, at least, eventually. Probably closer to 700 with E85. That's what a EFR 7670 should do for you.

Am I the only here that really doesn't understand WHY someone needs 700whp in a Miata? I can't see that being useful on the track... People here already have enough traction issues with 350+-whp.

Mehhh... 700? I for one would love to see it - but it'll be kinda like that nightmare when you're running as fast as you can but you're not going anywhere? I'm still gonna use my 9.5:1 rods BECAUSE in the event E85 isn't available (which is quite possible here in the south), I can run a lower tune on race gas in a pinch using ProEFI - without having meltdown.

But again - crazy? Yes - but it'd be insane to watch!

I don't track my car, I don't think 700 whp will ever be a goal of mine about 600 is though. I never had bad traction issues even with 400+ whp on the street, a little at the top of 3rd gear but besides that it was just spool and go. In a street car I have no reason seeing why 600 whp in a Miata isn't streetable, as long as your set up is correct.

Oh, well if that's the case then go for it. I didn't know we were talking about a street car since this is the Race Prep section. On the track I think it would be fairly useless but as a highway monster with the right gearing and if set up well like you said it should be pretty nasty.
