My 949 11.75" kit is going on today.

Can anyone recommend a torque for the tophat to rotor bolts/nuts?

Being brakes i'd like to put it together properly in the hope of them staying together!

Dont forget lock wire. I just torque them by hand and lock them.

+1. Our 11.75 kits are pre-assembled before they ship out, but if you're doing yours on your own, you must safety wire them.

I don't see any reference to safety wire in those instructions. Is your hardware drilled for safety wire?

Nope. No safety wire holes in bolts,Wilwood instructions don't mention it, none of the kits I have seen mention it...949 racing site doesn't mention it...

I agree it would be better to have them safety wired but drilling the holes and then safety wiring seems like a lot of work for something that very few people seem to do OR have problems with.....(that I have seen at least.. ?)

Maybe in the off season i'll look at it.

In the meantime I have torqued and locktite'd as per instructions....

There isn't, I actually called them about this last year when installed my 11" kit.

They said they aren't having any problems with their current assembly instructions. We put 10 sessions on the car in 1 day with no problems.

(I did order the ARP bolts, but they don't work with the rotor/hat setup.)

Please safety wire your brakes. I would hate to see a thread where your car gets wadded or worse because you didn't take the time to do it right the first time.

Safety wire is ideal but we actually never safety wire our two piece brake systems here. We have also never had a rotor/hat fastener back out. I suggest K nuts as an option to safety wire.

Sounds like the 11.75 kit we shipped mx5-kiwi didn't have the torque sheet. Sorry! Here's the spec: Using a star pattern, torque fasteners in the following steps 18lbs-ft, 24 lbs-ft, 28 lbs-ft. Use blue or red Loctite on threads

I didn't safety wire my 949 kit as that was not the instructions provided. I did a bit of research around safety wiring, and from what I gathered, too many people do it incorrectly (thus making it unsafe) that it was better to just use loctite. So far, my brakes haven't come apart on me. <shrug>

I also use Resbond instead of Loctite on the rotor/hat bolts. Normal Loctite deactivates with heat.

Holy cow what is your labor time for safty wiring a set of rotors? seems like it takes me at least an hour. I usually do it watching TV. I would think you would need to charge more for including that service than you do.

It takes me ~15 minutes to do 8 pairs (2 rotors' worth). I've done a few of them, though, so a lot of the little decisions that make it take so long (where to route the wire, how to wrap it, how tight to twist the wire) just happen on auto-pilot for me. I've been meaning to videotape myself doing it sometime, actually - just haven't gotten around to it.

Just wanted to say, THank you to Emilio for the WICKED brakes. Anyone considering 11.75" upgrade...dont consider, just bite the bullet!!!

Firmer pedal, great heat resistance, awesome feel......I'm really impressed.

I think I took off 20-40 mtrs off some of my braking markers today with them (WITH passenger!!)...2 weeks will confirm at next race meet but I am sure I am now braking significantly, consistantly deeper.

Even better the feel is confidence inspiring, where as with the old "Big Brake" setup I felt like it was closer to the braking capacity than was comfortable...possibly all psychological but hey, thats a big part of the game when racing right?
