Maxxis RC-1 245/40/15?

Been eyeing the 245/40/15 size on Maxxis' website as a pipe dream for time attack where there is a 80 or 100 tw cap on the class. Would fit a 9" wheel.. have seen old archived posts on m.net and elsewhere on the subject, but all just "what-ifs", wondering if anyone has any more concrete info on if this is a "don't hold your breath, look elsewhere for realistic options within next season or two" or if this is actually coming to fruition in the near future?
I bet Emilio has the most up to date insider info on this, but don't always want to be bugging him directly via email ;)

Follow Super Miata on facebook or email maxxis. The 245/40/15 is due to arrive in Q2.

Last time I looked into the release date word was the 225 would be first then the 245. So probably not soon. Been a while since then though so who knows.

A 245 will definitely fit on a 9" wheel. I'd be curious to know whether or not that's the best width for the tire or it will fit everything else.

These could be interesting. They should cost about as much as I pay for a set of 275 hoosier take offs, work in the temp range I already run the A6's in and should hopefully last like a whole season. Would be a decent cheapy tire for me to just do locals on when I'm not fiddling around with car setup and just want seat time.

Speaking from experiance and for comparison: 245's hoosiers totally rock on a 10" wheel. Actually feel better than the 275's. Sidewall profile is better for feel and performance charicteristics. Set NASA TT2 Lap records on several tracks with them.

hum...Maxxis is down the road a few miles. Might have to knock on their door.

Can you guys share some feedback on those RC1 vs NT-01 for example ? Both available in 225 a ATM. T/A with 100 TW cap is happening next season or you take a big hit if you go Hoosier and don't worth it IMO.

Ran 275 on 9" and they feel like they're missing a lot of slip angle...

IS the RC-1 available in 225/45/15 right now? I've not found a place with it for sale..

same answer I got when I stopped by. Also for the 245.
Their "guy in California" is handling this. The Corp office is kinda in the dark. Guess it's a purple crack hit again this year.

Here is the email answer I got back from John at Maxxis Hi John,

Yes I'll add you to my VIP contact list.

Sorry they re available in 205 only. Too much beer and snow...

Hoping the 245/40/15's Maxxis RC-1 will arrive next month as planned. I drove on my NT01's this past weekend and forgot how much fun they can be.

These guys did some more testing last month at Buttonwillow comparing the NT01 to the RC-1.

Very interesting!

It may not be a big difference in time but I will go for the Maxxis for Time Attack if I can get my hands on the 225-45-15. (Maxxis told me they are just starting production and should be available in 1 month)

joyrider 02-20-2014 09:00 PM

Buy em and we will do some back to back data test with log this summer at the track, and we will have something to talk about.
