Default MegaSquirt MS3Pro with AIM Solo 2 DL and Smartycam HD

Hello all, I recently just purchased my good friends built 2002 Miata and I am looking into adding some kind of video and data logging/acquisition system. The car has a MegaSquirt MS3Pro ECU and AEM AFR gauge. I was looking into the AIM products as I have heard good things about them and they seem to be very popular amongst the people I track with. This is my first Miata and first time looking into a system like this so please bear with me. I am considering getting the AIM Solo 2 DL with the Smartycam HD set up. I was wondering what specific data the MegaSquirt can provide to the Solo 2 and Smartycam...can I at least get the brake and throttle inputs on the overlay? Or do I need to add a bunch of aftermarket sensors? I would appreciate any input, thanks!

Disclaimer: I don't have an AIM Solo or a smarty cam but I did a quick search. The AIM Solo will communicate with Megasquirt via CANbus or OBD2 (since you have an NB). From there you should be able to output basically anything that MS3 has. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but you'll be able to send over throttle %, but not braking % as we don't have a sensor for brake pedal %.

Another idea is a Racecapture MK2 w/ Go Pro.

Just installed the solo2 DL onto my car, running MS3X. AIM supports a variety of protocols but the easiest to get working with MS is CANbus. The solo2 DL has a ton of ECUs built in to configure. I have attached the channels available for megasquirt as seen through race studio 3. So far all of my channels work as expected except MAT, which will need an equation to get the scaling right. The simple broadcast limits you to the channels you see below. The solo2 can also create custom CANbus devices in which you could manually set up the addressing and output virtually any wordbit available from the MS via CANbus. I will be digging into this in the future to add additional channels instead of the ones below.

Otherwise, like goingnowherefast mentioned, stock configuration does not have a sensor for brake pressure. You would need to add a pressure sensor and get it wired back. TPS is already shown.

Thanks for the info! This will be my first time getting into a system like this so it’s quite intimidating at first. But I’m sure once I have it installed and mess around with the program it will make sense. I don’t need to go too crazy, I would like to just have a reliable system to have data overlays on video to help me learn from. I figured braking would be good to know as a tool to lean from so I could always add that sensor. I’m new to the track in general (only have like 7 TDs, 6 in Evo X, 1 in my new Miata) and I figured aside from in car instruction, a system like this would be a worthy investment.
