Miatas kicked butt at 25 of Thunderhill!!

So my brothers team Hooverspeed took two third place finishes in E3 and E2 and his sons team took 1st at the 25 hour endurance race at Thunderhill. It was a long, wet and cold race. I dumped fuel and changed tires all night, we had two cars running, a 1.6 and a 1.8. The 1.8 car held on to 1st place for 23 hours until we threw a rod (placed third even though we blew up with 2 hours to go, not bad ;) ). The 1.6 car made it all 25 hours. My nephews team Atlanta Motor Sports lost one car when the rack went out and had another car finish for the win, he was running late model cars.

CR-Z should have won E3. Shoulda, woulda, coulda...

I was there with Achilles Motorsports campaigning a E0 class E36. our car number was 48, we also went out 2 hours from the finish, but it was a wreck not a rod. Good fun anyways, and I picked up some free tires for friends.

Didn't one of those things roll?

Efini~FC3S 12-08-2010 04:06 PM

Yes, about hour 4 I guess. Took three hours to fix then they went back out.

You guys should definitely do it. After a year of SCCA sprint racing and doing three 8+ endurance races I can say endurance racing is the sh*t. We did the 8 hour at mid-ohio, 12 hour at nelson ledges and 13 hour at VIR. We won the 12 hour and finished second (out of 65 cars) at the 13 hour. Endurance racing = tons of seat time and an awesome teamwork element. Also doing a 100+ minute stint is so crazy compared to a regular 20-30 min sprint race. It rained basically the whole 12 hours of the race at Nelson and oh my god was 90 minutes in constantly changing conditions the most difficult driving I've ever done. 90 minutes of non-stop extreme concentration with grip levels changing in every corner every lap was one of the most exhausting things I've ever done, but darn did it feel good in the end.

Anyways, endurance racing = awesome

We are going to race VIR 24hour chump car in July. What light is that mounted on the hood? That all you used?

Thanks

I have enduranced raced, albeit on bikes, and I'll second the above comments. The very long concentration intervals, physical endurance requirements, and the whole teamwork aspect are fantastic. And LOTS of seat time. In our case it was about 2-3 hours EACH for a given endurance race including practice.

Since I switched to cars last year (time trials) I find I am missing a lot of the aspects of endurance bike racing (road racing). I'm considering figuring out a way to do that in a car now.

We are always looking for drivers when we run endurance races, check out our website http://hooverspeed.com when a big race is scheduled for info on getting a seat in a race.
