I have a fresh (5hrs) LS3 dry sump I'll cut you a REALLY good deal on.

Send me an email with your number if interested. hogan.thomas@outlook.com

Great build thread.

The only V8 Miata I've experienced at speed is Jess Heitman's. He's just running a Ford small block with an accusump. His build isn't too complicated but the V8 sounds and feelings are all there. If I had fab skills and space I would do that.

Lfx all the way. Lighter than v8/turbo/supercharged Miata motor, great torque down low.

I understand the conundrum, I went through part of this with retiring from Motocross, something I was quite good at and getting better with time when our daughter was in the cooking stage (am back semi casually again now) . Fortunately she (and for a time) the wife are enjoying accompanying me but won't last im sure... .

I believe horsepower is your answer. Not mad, expensive, lots of time to maintain HP but enough to make/keep things interesting.....actually even more than HP is probably torque, that seems (to me) to be where the fun, challenge etc of the driving is (BP at 350 whp, v8 or something similar).

Aero is cool but very quickly gets to diminishing returns, increase mental prep/design, in fab and maintenance, tear down to travel etc.

All IMO.

Are you faster without the windshield? If so how much? I'm trying to evaluate if the drag of the cage is less than the drag of the wind screen.
