MS2x - Internal Boost Control, suitable for race car?

Hi Guys

Reverant is about to send out my MS2x but I dont know if the onboard boost control is good, very good or not so good.

I have a Greddy Prospec ready to go in at the same time if necessary but obviousley having everything coming from the ECU (I think) would be better.

Can anyone advise their thoughts, experiences etc....

This is in my road / race car, race season starts soon so will be more circuit focused and I so bad want to beat the quick (and seriousley fast) Civics and 240,260z's in my class!!!

The ms2e that rev sells has great boost control capability.
Nothing at all like the MS1's or MSPNP's of the past.
Definitely not a bad idea to use it rather than a standalone ebc.

I would rather use the MS2 for boost control than an EBC. With the MS2 you can dial down that torque hit at peak torque for a more drivable race car.

With MS2 you can control boost to tailor the torque curve to your desire. With the MBC you get flat boost control. Which would you rather have?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advantages (well i know some of them) my main question is that in race duty does the MS2 actually do the job well enough.

Like boost creep or software routine not up to the task etc....or even worst case blowing solenoids/turbos/engines etc...Whlist I have raced bikes my whole life, in regards to cars and turbo's I literally am "new" to the party so have/had no idea.....:noob:

It seems like the consensus is yes.

Very politely asked.....Are both you guys operating from a practical perspective in that you have used, do use or know of the use of the MS2e with boost control in a race application or more a theoretical one..?

I am not trying to be disrespectful or a smart ass here but it is very hard to know who "knows" what on a forum....:makeout:

It's very capable once you tune it properly. The Prospec will get you up and running much faster.

Race car? No
Street car? Yes.. I don't see any differences in application between the two for this specific item though. There's boost cut for if the solenoid gets stuck or something goes wrong. Closed loop boost control takes care of a lot of the rest. Having a throttle vs rpm table is a whole heck of a lot better than having just a rpm table (that most ebc's have)

Lot's of experience with EBC's. No experience setting up boost control with the MS2. I have plans for it though.

If you have a solenoid failure in either case the turbo reverts back to wastegate spring pressure.

I can't imagine ever using EBC to reduce torque output at WOT. Use it to reduce boost at partial throttle to linearize the throttle-torque relationship, sure, but never use it to reduce full throttle torque.

Picture a 300tq jump over 1,000 RPM's in second/third gear and you will understand why.

I have not driven a turbo Miata so I can't say how it would handle the torque spike. Obviously you know more about that than me. If you keep pumping up the power you may change your mind on the above statement though.

Im using MS2 EBC to control boost on a 325whp 1.6L that comes on like a 1000HP supra. It more than doubles it horsepower in under 1000rpm.

The EBC is used for 2 things, so that half throttle does not equal full throttle at half RPM, where the throttle body at half throttle isn't limiting the HP because the engine can produce full power (or near enough) at half throttle due to the low rpm.

The other thing its used for is to tame the onset of boost across the boost threshold.

Its not used to lower WOT torque anywhere but across the threshold, otherwise you have to squeeze, then back off and counter steer and squeeze again.

Thanks guys. Well and truly answered.

In the mean time (while it is being delivered) I haven't had a chance to really dig deep into finding a manual etc is there any MS2 specific manual anywhere, the few times i have looked I could only find MS1 or older/different documentation...any suggestions?
