no I'm not sure it is not the main seal. when I changed the trans, the bell housing was oil free. that is the only reason I don't think it is the main seal. I looked at it today and I still can not figure it out. ripped around town and I just don't think I got the car hot enough because I only saw a few drops. I'm beginning to think it might be a cracked oil pan. the car was a drift car,very low and has some scrapes, marks that look like cracks but i cant tell if it is just casing marks. based on the trans pull, I don't think it is the rear mean seal but the oil does pool right next to the little weep hole.

This is a drift car so when you said you came off track, you were mostly sideways? It's possible you won't see the leak much on a series of hard street pulls if the leak is related to lateral g load and not necessarily heat.

I'm still trying to find the leak! I have one more track day next monday and I really want to do it. I'm thinking it might be the head gasket. I pulled the trans and it was not the rear main seal. luckily I was able to change my throwout bearing that was not fully disengaging the gears and now it works great.

I do road race stuff. so i was not mostly sideways. I added wider tires and removed the thick rear sway bar and put on a stock on. the suspension still leaves some room for improvement. its pretty ok at 7/10 but when I go hard the car feels too soft and vague and will push on the tight or medium long turns and oversteer on the on the fast turns.

any advise on determining if this oil leak could be from the head gasket?

check the head, there is a cap on the driver side between head and firewall. mine was leaking really bad. recently redid oil pan, rear main along with the 20 dollar cap. if your headgasket was bad there would be no questioning if it was or not. have you checked everything oil related? filter, feed, drain, drain plug...etc

I was having an oil leak that was worse under high boost. Turned out it was my PCV valve (gummed up) allowing boost pressure to pressurize the crankcase. Oil then starts bleeding out of everywhere, oil pan, valve cover gasket, cam/crank seals. I believe it's that the OEM PCV valve isn't meant to see boost pressure.

Short term fix was to put a 323GTX PCV valve in there, meant to handle boost (Rosenthal carries them). It's an exact fit replacement for the 1.8 PCV (1.6 PCV too?). Still a little bit of leaking under full boost (8 psi for me), but not much. I'm going to put a catch can vented through a filter to atmosphere for on-track with a valve to put it back to stock for street.

when i had my oil leak, it looked like a ton of oil. turned out to be 2 things in my case. a tiny bit oil was leaking through the crank sensor somehow and it had a bad cam o-ring. that cam o-ring leaked oil down into some very weird places making it seem the leak was elsewhere. i never changed the PCV as suggested and the leak was fine after the new cam angle sensor o-ring and new crank sensor.

OH you might also check the oil galley plugs on the back of the head, i had some leaking from there also because the engine guy didn't check them when he installed the new motor and it was loose.

missing AC bolt. it was on my checklist from when I first got the car, it was checked off by me but never checked and somehow I never realized until I decided to check again. it was a hint when I realized I was not sure of this bolts location and made me optimistic that this was infact the issue so I went out a bought the bolt and sure enough, MIA. bad news is that I must be retarded... good news is that I don't have to tear apart the engine and miss another track day.

Please explain. I have an unidentified oil leak too that's driving me crazy. Which AC bolt are you referring to and how can it lead to oil leaking?

I had a pretty nasty leak once that only showed itself under boost/acceleration, could never find it when just idling or free-reving - turns out it was oil coming up through the o-ring holding the dipstick tube in place. I JB welded that bitch back in and never had any issues. Just another mystery place to check out.

you know what. I think I'm going to seal the fuck out of that also. because I can not stand showing up one more time with a leak. I did notice a little spray in that area at one point but i cleaned it and did not come back.

what is the stock seal set up on the dip stick? how is the tube removed? mine moves around free and I doubt that is right. should I just jb weld it? just got a fresh tube. perhaps I just just RTV it.
