Just the finger like interlock as seen in the picture. 5/16" grade 8 socket head cap screw through from opposite sides. The interface is designed to transfer all the loads a tube will see.
I think the only engineering compromises would be, and I'm guessing: -A bit more weight -The tube it's connected to would become effectively stiffer in that area which could concentrate stress unless it's accounted for, which it is in this case. -A bit more cost -In my case, I'll have to make some sort of rounded cover to shield the upper interface during street driving since my noggin will be nearby with the head restraints removed from the seat. -Everything else being equal, less welds are better than more welds but that's being nit picky I don't know who makes the connectors but I'm guessing it's some place that makes hardware for offroad/sand rails or something like that. I could see an LSx engined sand rail being easier to service with a few strategically placed connectors. |

I think your Miata is a prime candidate for a custom windscreen.
I have thought of doing a Miata street roadster with a shortened windscreen. Something that also tapers back more. Having a blank canvas like you have there is even more appealing to start with. |

Going to the edge of the hood will give you rake without effecting head clearance. Grab a 6 pack of your favorite beer and a bunch of construction paper/tape/conduit tubing and spend some time being making a template. Enjoy! |

Small pieces/flaps are surprisingly effective for this. I've cut this one down a few times and it still deflects most crud and bugs up over my helmet at autocross speeds. The car is getting caged right now so I'm sure it will get reevaluated this year.

Moti did this a few months ago, before beginning work on the ND roll bars. Project has been dormant since late August. It's in the phase where Moti is doing all the tub mods and a lot of extra stuff for cooling, ducting, seat mounts, etc. We'll start working on it again when he's done and hope to have it running spring 2016.
Wing is a GT-1000 from APR. We'll make some larger custom end plates. Fenders cut away to make way for Autokonexion 30mm qtr panels that never materialized. Bummer since Mike used my car to make the molds and promised me a free set :(. So I'll have to find some other way to get fenders on it. Maybe Carbon Miata or DG Motorsports. It'll be set up to run 15x11 with 275 for autocross and a few tight tracks. 245's on 15x10's for everything else. Either 245 RC-1, 245/50 R80 Hoosier or 245/40 R7. Rad in trunk? Sure. Easier to fit the other three (Rotrex, IC, OC) in the nose and still have room for many aeros. Also weight off the nose. Wing mounts for the APR GT-1000 visible here. CarbonMiata is doing carbon front and rear fenders for it.
