Sealed? Does that mean it comes with a warranty?

Spur gears, straight cut. Weighs 100lbs with the shift lever. I am surprised the rating is horsepower and not torque. Could be that heat is as much a factor as static load.

OGRacing Mar 23, 2016 11:41 AM

it's rude to ask numbers but... what is retail on one of those?

Dustin1824 Mar 23, 2016 01:25 PM

I can definitely see how it would have a HP rating. The gear endurance allowables drop off above 230F, and rapidly fall off after 260F if I remember right. It's in the AGMA gear design guidelines.

Ideally it would come with a HP rating and a max torque rating. Does it have any provisions for easily incorporating a Trans cooler? If so, that would bump up that HP rating. 375 seems pretty low but I can see them being conservative.

I wonder how much torque it would take to break

Exactly. I'm hoping with our trans cooler, we can get it to live a long happy life with around 300lbs and 400whp (Rotrex)

Dustin1824 Mar 23, 2016 02:47 PM

Being spur gears, they don't create as much heat as helical gears. 375HP probably makes 20HP of heat to shed at most, lets call that the trannies heat shedding ability at a safe temp.

At 475bhp (to make 400 whp), you will be making ~25HP of heat, so you will need ~13000 BTU heat exchanger to make up for that extra heat at a minimum.

Certainly doable, although one with even more capacity would be safer just in case, say 20,000 BTU. My rough napkin calculations and assumptions are probably close to reality, but I wouldn't bank a $9k trans on it :firedevil

emilio700 Mar 23, 2016 02:52 PM

Plan is for a decent size Setrab with a fan on it in the trunk box. We'll do whatever it takes to keep trans temps down to 220° or so. Bigger exchanger if needed.

at first i thought 6k isn't that bad for a sequential. then i did the dollars to Pounds conversion. Ouch!

julio Mar 23, 2016 03:13 PM

And you got to ship it from the UK. I want one so bad though so I can live out my childhood rally car dreams. Sequential shifters are just cool.

Pulled the trigger on a set of these fenders. Searching for fenders for deviate for 245's I stumbled across a pinterest (wtf) shot head on of this GT3 car with cleco fasteners in. More digging and I discover it's Bob Boig's old GT3 car. Near as I can tell, Pennon only ever made one kit. Pennon is gone, no links, no dba's no nothing. More sleuthing. Owner of Pennon passed a few years back, business closed, molds bought by CCE Composites in VT. Track down CCE and contact owner Steve Maxwell. CCE Composites. He's not sure what he has but is eager to find out. He pulls the molds out, takes pics and voila, same kit. He also has an EP style cowl cover.

This isn't exactly what OGK will look like but those fenders are the starting point. I'll get them made in Kevlar/FRP as that has proven to be a great combination of strength, flexibility, weight and cost. Should easily clear 15x11 with 275's. 245's will be a bit lost in there but we can always throw a 10mm spacer on. Phat.

Interesting! Going to be a cool build.

Sherlock cat

That kind of detective work deserves a Sherlock cat.

aidandj Apr 19, 2016 12:38 PM

I want to see emilio's pintrest profile.

julio Apr 19, 2016 12:55 PM

That is probably the best looking NB wide body/fender kit I've seen. Trying not to molest my MSM too much but this might change my mind. If only the rear fenders bolted off like the front.....

mcfandango Apr 19, 2016 03:27 PM

What is the width measure up front across those flares? I'm wondering if those would cover the 16x11s with the 23.5x11R16 R75As. Although not exactly an easy button since the XP car is an NA.

emilio700 Apr 19, 2016 04:02 PM

No one knows the dimensions. Those pics are all we have.

wagnerov Apr 19, 2016 04:28 PM

If it's a true SCCA GT3 car then it's a Miata only as far as the bodywork is concerned, with a tubeframe underneath (meaning mounting points for the bodywork might be completely different than a stock NB, these aren't just "flares").

Here's a link to the same car I found while googling for "miata boig headers" a long time ago.
