what class? ITE, ST, SPM?
What classes do you run in with your turbo miata?
SCCA will allow it in SPM and ITE. Conference has ITE, but also ST (sport touring) which calls for a hp/wt ratio of 10hp/lb. Locally, there are quite a few corvettes and porcshe 996's run in ST. How does a 250hp/2500# miata stack up with them?

STU? The car that finished 2nd in STU last year at the runoffs was a turbo miata. I've never been to a race (not counting the 13 hour at VIR) where there were more than one or two ITE cars. Every race I go to there are a bunch of STU cars.
Are you looking to do SCCA Nationals or Regionals?

It looked like SCCA's ST class does not allow swapping out the factory turbocharger. I replaced my OEM IHI with a Garrett. Did I read this right?

To me "a case by case basis" might as well say "not allowed"
I'm not motivated enough to put up with the Secret Car Club of America's bullshit and try to get something like that approved.
However, I was motivated enough to petition to allow aftermarket hard tops in SSM... their response is actually supposed to be in next months issue of fast track.

After spending the first race weekend sorting the car, I think that I have found a good home for the car in SPM. This will move me out of ITE/group 4 (ground pounder v-8's) and into Group 1 where there will be plenty of pro7 mazda's and pro3 bimmers to dice with!
I think I'll stick with ITE for awhile, as I am truely all alone and have a chance to improve my racing lines, braking points without all of that traffic... except the occasional v-8 that streaks by!

Both SCCA and Conference allow these in a regional class.
In conference racing they class the SP series based upon displacement; SPO, SPM and SPU. The turbo'ed car gets a 1.4 x displacement hit, which places the miata in SPM.
SCCA is the same, except they call for the use of a restrictor plate.
