Preferred Space Between Stacked Exchangers?
 
I have done a lot of searching and haven't quite found THE answer, so here is my question. I am building a GReddy turbo car w/MS and plans to boost to 12 - 15 PSI. I will be stacking an oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condensor and KOYO radiator.

Is there a preferred amount of space that should exist between each exchanger in the stack (or an amount of space that shouldn't be exceeded) and should I add an insulating barrier (e.g. closed cell foam, etc.) along the perimeter of each exchanger where it meets the exchanger behind it to force airflow though the entire stack?

Knowing you are in Florida I would honestly say to not put the oil cooler up front. The less you have blocking flow the better. I would also plan on getting the FM radiator shrouds and fan. From my understanding they work better with the AC and in stop and go traffic. Also you will need the stock under tray and if you can fit the front piece in the mouth it would be well worth it.

Thanks, Lars! I ordered a 16 row oil cooler and I should be able to mount it vertically on the driver's side of the radiator, to the right of the IC. I also have a slot in the bumper, above the waistline that I can duct into the cooler.

Would 1/2 of space between the cooler and condenser be advisable?

yeah, but seal up the gaps so air flows through and not around.

Thank you both! I've also gained a lot of ideas from the cooling thread for ducting and heat extraction, which I will apply.

I should add to Lars post that I have a DIY shroud (trimmed aluminum baking pan) with SPAL fans all sealed up behind the radiator with about 1" of space between the rad and the shroud.

Be sure to allow space for the air entering the bumper mouth to go around the intercooler on its way to the radiator. Remember, the radiator is the most important heat exchanger.

I definitely considered that. I'll duct the entire open mouth to the radiator and have duct box in the center feeding into the I/C. The cooling thread has some great ideas. I'm even taking one of yours and putting some WRX bumper vents in my hood.
