Quick NT01 question - heat cycling

Likely answered elsewhere but I can't find the answer searching.

Are people heat cycling the NT01's before using them or just hitting the track hard right out of the box?

Savington 01-07-2011 11:58 AM

Straight out of the box.

cueball1 01-07-2011 12:00 PM

Perfect. Thanks Sav!

For $125 at onlinetires the NT01 225/45/15 is pretty much a no brainer for this season.

It is hard to ignore their bang for the buck.

Ive had bad luck with that company, I would recommend printing out there price and going to Americas tire or discount tire with the print out, they will match the price for you and you wont have any hassle. Thats what I did for my last set of NT01s

^^^That's exactly what I did for my last NT01's as well^^^ I did heat cycle them and let them sit for a week in bags. I was very pleased with the life I got from them and will but them again. If Sav says no to heat cycling I will try his advice on the next set.

I did the same. I had a bad experience even I drove down there to pick up tires. Made me wait one extra day since they got the wrong size!

I don't have a lot of experience with onlinetires but did buy a set of Nitto Neo Gens from them last year. Price was much less than anyone else and I didn't have a single problem. They sent them timely and the shipping rate was good. I have had problems with my local America's Tire. I guess every company screws up sometimes.

The NT01 is only $122.20 and shipping is $54 for the set of 4. I'll shop around locally but that seems like a pretty good price shipped.

aznDragonX 01-07-2011 02:25 PM

lol.. I bought NT01 from onlinetires and after I got a bad exp from them. I went to my local America's Tire to get Nitto Neo Gens for daily use.

got my NT01s and RA1s from them (onlinetires) - no problems, maybe I got lucky

LOVE my NT01s - not a hoosier but they're 1/2 the cost and last til you cord them.

wordlyphe. I'm getting 10+ days on them...more like 14 and they get faster, and faster, and faster. However the are noticeably slower on the full tread but not enough to shave them.

+1 on getting Discount Tire to price match, or at least drop their price a lot. I brought my wheels to the local store, had them order the NT-01s, and mount them. Good price and convenient.

News to me. I typically see the fastest times in the first 2-3 sessions.

We get ~10 days out of a set on the rental car - my black car will gnaw through a set in ~5-6 days. The black car also wears the rears faster due to wheelspin.(no joke. laying stripes in 3rd and 4th on corner exit appears to contribute to accelerated tire wear :giggle:)

May I go slower due to the squirm, but I'll have another set to get times on in a couple weeks.

Savington 01-13-2011 01:25 PM

I've never noticed any squirm on full-tread tires - the tread blocks are absolutely enormous, I wouldn't expect there to be any.

Ok, I give up...I'm a pussy.

cueball1 01-13-2011 02:31 PM

The pre-forum-mod Hustler would have said the squirming feeling is definetely there then gone into great detail how it's just as pronounced as the squirming was in his three way with Sav's mom and girlfriend on his yacht.

ZX-Tex 03-09-2011 03:17 PM

FWIW I just did this again. Discount Tire (retail store) beat onlinetires.com on the price over the phone. From onlinetires.com a set of 4 225/45/15 is $555 with shipping. Discount is selling them to me for $544 with tax, unmounted. And, they will be here in two days. I just pick them up at the store.

hustler 03-09-2011 04:27 PM

Holy shit I should have used Discount Tire.
