Default 1.6 oil cooler

I am helping a friend put together an oil cooler setup on his 1.6 SM car. I just did one myself on my 1.8. The problem is his car does not have the water to oil cooler that spaced out the oil filter location. Basically my sandwich adapter doesn't fit. Can I buy a 1.8 OEM water to oil cooler and use it as a spacer?

Thanks

You can use that + the extended threads or get the spacer from flying miata with extended threads. I might have a FM spacer laying around if you want it.

^what he said. The block gets in the way on a 1.6 and I had to buy an FM spacer kit to make it work.
