Possible for a 1.6 to be competitive in TTE with manly driving?
Quick explanation of why I'm considering this, I have a spare Long nose 1.6 I was going to put in the car to get through next year anyway. My thought being, while it's out deck the head to get the compression up and throw some cams in, which would be relatively cheap.
Possible for a 1.6 with ~11.25:1 comp and bigger cams with a decent I/H/E could put down 125whp and have a min comp weight 150lbs lower than a 1.8 NA? Put good pads/fluid and duct the 1.6 brakes?

Base 1.6s are classed TTF**, not TTF. You only have 25 points to play with, not 39.
Even if you dyno class, which would be the only way to make that motor package fit into TTE, you'll still be down 5+whp on a competitive 1.8 car and a lot more torque (like 15-20ft.lbs). I doubt it would make for a competitive package.

If you already had that engine setup, you could probably make it semi-competitive... enough to go out and have fun. I definitely wouldn't put any money into a 1.6 for TT purposes, though. You'd want it dyno reclassed for sure, and you'd get the exact same pwr/wt ratio as a 1.8 car. Like sav said, the torque difference is huge. I sometimes wish I'd started with a honda just for the junkyard 2.2L+ options.
