Recommendations on Roll cage
I have decided to enter the world of club racing. The first thing I am looking at installing is a good roll cage into my 1994 miata. Any recommendations on Brand, features and installation.

I really do like the miatacage cage (its what I have in my car), but its difficult to get a passenger seat to fit well (making a new "harness" bar would resolve this complaint). If that doesn't effect you, then that's what most people would recommend if i had to guess.

I've never seen a Miatacage install I liked.
If you're on the west coast, call Tony Colicchio at TC Designs. Even if you're in LA, it's worth the tow up to him. His cages are the nicest I've ever seen in a Miata, and he doesn't charge nearly enough to install them (<$2k for a SCCA/NASA legal cage with NASCAR bars and a window net). All of our cars have TC cages. |
Theres a guy in Richmond, VA that makes cages too. I dunno about his Miata cages, but he's good for LeMons cages :P
Mazda Maita Roll Cage Kits |
Thanks,
I am in the midwest so I was thinking about the miatacage. He has a kit that can be shipped and installed. Doesn't the harness bar for the driver continue to the hoop upright on passenger side? |

I sat in a miatacage a few weeks ago and didn't really have any complaints. There are some things I'd do differently if I were designing it ground up, but I went through that process with a previous car and won't be doing it again until I'm in a bigger/better-equipped garage. If there were some good cage builders closer to me I'd probably just take the car to them, but I'll be doing the work myself and the miatacage is good enough.

Just throwing it out there, but take the cost of a TC cage and add the cost of towing all the way up to North CA for someone down here and there are options in SoCal for that total cost that can be even better. |
If your anywhere near Pittsburgh check out Domination Chassis & Performance.
If not, I would ask on the spec miata forums. |
I bought my car with a cage and the one thing I found out is that the rear hoop is lower and further back than I'd prefer.

Anyone have a picture of a miatacage to see what the references relate to?

I will say this. If you do have a cage builder build one from scratch, make sure they have some experience with the car. I have found that you can easily pay for a fabricators unfamiliarity with the car. I have been through roll cage hell with a supposed "experienced builder". |

The miatacage kit can be ordered from saferacer with free shipping, plus you can use their spec miata discount code for I think a 10% discount. $960 shipped. Code: smkmbixo. I just finished installing mine and it was a shitload of work. Wish I'd just paid someone. |
