Replacing wheel studs, why a new axle nut?
I have removed my front hubs in prep for ARP wheel stud install....everything I read says replace the stub axle nut...
I dont get why, are they REALLY a consumable, use once item? |
The edge you knock in to lock it can be single use.
I have never replaced mine (I have one spare though, if I wouldn't trust it to lock). |
The edge is single use. Normally when you swap hubs the spot of the final torque ends up in a different place so its ok. But if they end up in a place that you cant re-stake then you have to swap them side to side.

Thanks for the replies guys.
So effectively it is the locking punch spot that is the concern, not the threads or bearing surface.... I removed mine and re torqued it which has left the old punch mark in a different location so the new punch mark is fresh metal... Consensus is that this is okay right? |
Yes, thats all good in the hood.
