Rotella T6 Help

I have never used Rotella oil - always used Mobil 1. So many good words about Rotella T6 that I am about to load some in my blown 94R. Just noticed that it is called Rotella T6 "Heavy Duty Diesel" motor oil. Is this the correct oil of which everybody raves? The word "diesel" is throwing me off.

blaen99 03-10-2013 05:56 PM

It's because it's for diesel that everyone raves about it.

TL;DR Diesel means zinc.

lotusconvert 03-10-2013 05:57 PM

Thanks Blaen - Seems like it's the right stuff. I'll load it in.

GeneSplicer 03-10-2013 08:04 PM

That stuff will make it smoke like one too... why else do diesels belch out that awesomeness? It's all in the dino oil... do it

I normally use Mobil1. I then tried Rotella T6. I then went back to Mobile1. Rotella T6 seemed thinner when hot. Granted, this is under my conditions here in the desert heat.

I put T6 in my coffee and it gives me lubricity all day.

What do you mean, "you noticed"?

turbofan 03-10-2013 08:44 PM

Lots of issues here...

Rotella T6 is full synthetic genesplicer, not Dino.

99mx5, in for how you noticed a difference in friction between the two oils.

The rotella *should* be better under more extreme conditions.

Stupid comment removed...

no shit - not like I was really trying to be correct... next thing you're gonna tell me is the black soot isn't from the oil :jerkit:

I run rotella in everything I own. Last time i checked most of the mobil 1 stuff isn't that great but I've heard the 4t mobil motorcycle stuff is good as long as you dont run a catalytic convertor has a ton of zinc in it.

http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...otor%20Oil.pdf

quote from another forum I'm on "This oil is designed specifically for motorcycles with friction modifiers for their clutches etc... However, although not recommended (emissions) Mobil 1 said this oil would work extremely well in a high performance car engine.

It's not recommended because the ZDDP is way too high for street cars because we all run cats...

So I'm going to give it a shot. It's almost double the ZDDP of regular Mobil 1 (whatever version) and much much higher than most high end oils. But since motorcycles don't have catalytic converters they load it up.

AND... You can find it at any advance auto, for like 8.99... So giving this stuff a shot, for cheap oil that get's changed very often."

$8.99/QUART isn't cheap.

For the first time ever, I put 5w-30 Mobil 1 in my subaru, because it was ~$22/6 quarts when I visited Costco with the inlaws a few weekends ago.

bobistheoilguy.com

Compare virgin oil analysis numbers for T6 and M1.

TurboTim 03-11-2013 10:04 AM

quite difficult for me to compare info on that site.

EDIT: I guess I could use google to search that site if I do not have a log-in.

No crank vent into the intake on my cars, no care.

During use on the track, the Mobil1 had more pressure in the oil gauge when hot compared to the T6 as if the T6 was thinner when it got hot. Both oils I used were the same grade.

Edit: I change oil when the engine is hot. Yes, its a PITA...

Conditions: Hot parts wet with two different heated oils of same grade. Dried off with clean rag. Grasped with clean hands. Difference in slickness felt by touch.

This might be the dumbest thing I've read outside of mazdas247 and freerepublic.

I don't think I've ever ran a cat except for when the Miata was strictly stock. I have doubts quite a few other posters on here use cats as well.

This is what Mobil told him. Yea no one runs a cat unless you live in California.

Why did I go to school in a STEM field when all I needed to do was touch it? Fuck my Chemical Engineering Polymers prof what does he know? Going to email that faggo right now :crx:
