SC SSM Miata debate..

1 Attachment(s)
Picked up an OO SE car as well as an old ubercharger kit that had been laying around "un-touched" for a long time. Started the car on 8 psi with the factory injects/ecu with a jackson racing PC and made 188 WHP on pump 93. Went shortly after to FIC750 injectors and an MS2 with an E85 tune and pulled well over the 260 mark on the stock bottom end(11PSI). Cars been running this "conservative" tune since the swap from pump to E85. Cars just not quick enough for true SSM paxing. Figured I would ask if I should trash the build and start over... or continue in the same grind on this same kit. Should see the kit in the classifieds in a few days depending on what people think. Im pretty much thinking its time to start fresh... power seems there, but it also feels like im starting on the wrong boost to be really competing. Ill post dynos tonight when I get off...

Sounds like you already know what you should do ;)

I dunno man, if you look at the fastest SSM cars at nationals, they're usually RX7's. And the fastest SSM miata last year at Nats was running a hotside S/C. Here's a pic of his engine bay and graphs.

225 ft lbs at 2500 rpm is way out of my league. I wanna see full numbers of that setup.

Red91 08-01-2014 05:43 PM

PM him, I'm sure he'd be willing to share some info to someone in the same class/car.

BonaZ 08-01-2014 06:19 PM

I'll see what he thinks. Maybe shed some light on pros/cons of swapping.

Stock bottom end? If that's the case, you're lucky you haven't bent a rod yet. Pistons, rods, and a different pulley for more boost are gonna be a lot cheaper than starting from scratch.

BonaZ 08-02-2014 12:30 AM

Stock bottom end. Money isn't the issue. Of it blows up, it blows up. That's a risk I accepted from the get go. I've got dyno sheets for over 260 and it hadn't skipped a beat yet! Pistons and rods will go in after it decided to blow up or I change boost options.

you keep mentioning cool things, like dyno plots, and not posting any pictures.

c'mon, we love pictures :)

BonaZ 08-02-2014 12:33 AM

I'm on my telephone. When I get to my office at home I'll post them. Sorry I forgot about that one.

Link to dyno charts on factory ECU, with factory injectors... Jackson Racing PC to provide for the boost.. On 93.

those are barely visible.......but nice..is that 200tq by 2k?

BonaZ 08-02-2014 07:14 PM

Thats 216 peak, and over 200 before 2000. I have that sheet framed but the glass in front of it makes it really hard to read cause the glare in the picture so I had to revert to that copy in the glove box.

Powers just not there with this setup it seems.

I'm not sure I follow: the power is obviously there, but you are obviously not satisfied with it. If a tad over 250 isn't enough, then I think you're ready for turbo :)

You can definitely get to 300 on the sc, or at least according to TNTUBA and Codingparadox you can, questions is whether 300 on a maxed out system is going to satisfy you.

Or you can scratch the whole thing and just go EFR and make as much as you want*

*obviously with supporting mods/built engine

BonaZ 08-02-2014 07:27 PM

Motors coming out as we speak... I just dont wanna stick the SC back in with the built motor and be unhappily satisfied. I have a 63mm pulley for the SC which is give or take 18 PSI which would give me more than 300 plus I could go with a crank overlay.. But im still thinking thats not enough. Need more input from other SC drivers.

I have a BEGi MOAB s/c kit (predecessor to the Ubercharger) at 214whp and I'm satisfied with it, however I'm not trying to be nationally competitive. I do plan to eventually shoot for 250hp once I have the money/time. I say if you're going to go turbo, twin charge it!

BonaZ 08-02-2014 07:40 PM

I dont think I would have the space to twin charge it... but that would certainly be unique.. Any idea what your torq looks like? You on pump?

BonaZ 08-02-2014 07:42 PM

Also, how much boost are you on!?

MOABmiata 08-02-2014 08:07 PM

10psi on 93, 173tq. Car is tuned with a RRFPR (ugh), but makes good power with no lean spots. I'm away from the car for college now but when I start using it I fully plan on megasquirting it, bigger injectors and maybe more boost. All the dyno plots I've seen of our cars with these setups suggests that the hp and tq increases pretty fast with more boost. The 1.2L Lysolm (which is the unit I think you've got) is rated for 25psi max, so theoretically there is a lot of power possible with these superchargers. Although I've heard of people getting catastrophic failures chasing 300whp with them as well, so YMMV.

And I always thought twin charging seemed possible with my setup, just would be heavy/complex.
