If you ever get really serious about autoX, just get buddy-buddy with a local or semi-local driver that already has a competitive car. Usually co-drives for the season can be arranged by splitting the cost of consumables.

Leave the MS in your car for now, but tell your competitors about it. Assuming you're not beating them (and I'd be surprised if you were, given it's your first event) they probably won't care. If they do care, then put "STR", "CSP", "SSM", or "OSP" (my favorite local class -- may not exist in your area) on the side of the car and mentally compare your times to the times in STS. It will likely take you at least a couple years to get fast enough to care about points (and more than that for national level events), use that time to think about what you want out the car and how best to prepare it. --Ian |
Unfortunately, I removed the MS before the event and now I'm getting used to life without it. Sure I miss the extra torque but I like the civility of the stock ecu and the better mileage (which is more of an indictment on my tuning ability than the MS). I decided to sell it and use the money elsewhere. If there are no takers for the price I want, then I'll consider putting it back on. Thanks for all the suggestions though. I got some good ideas from you guys.

here's the rules for ST updated for 2012
F. The engine management system parameters and operation may be modified only via the methods listed below. These allowances also apply to forced induction cars, except that no changes to standard boost levels, intercoolers, or boost controls are permitted. Boost changes indirectly resulting from allowed modifications are permissible, but directly altering or modifying the boost or turbo controls, either mechanically or electronically, is strictly prohibited. Traction control parameters may not be altered. Any standard OBD communications port functionality must remain. The Check Engine Light (CEL) or Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) may be disabled via software. Alternate software maps which violate these restrictions may not be present during competition, regardless of activation. 1. Reprogrammed ECU (via hardware and/or software) may be used in the standard housing. 2. Supplementary (“Piggyback”) ECU may be used subject to the following restrictions: a. Connects between the standard ECU/PCM and its wiring harness only. b. Must be plug-compatible with the standard ECU/PCM (no splices) Oh, and you can change 1 sway bar and stay in e stock now. |
