Would it be okay to reuse the ARP wheel studs if one went the replace the front hubs once a year path? How many times/seasons would be reasonable to reuse them?

emilio700 12-03-2018 03:10 AM

We have never reused an ARP stud in one of our cars. That said we have never seen one fail either. So, no recommendation there just a bit of data.

My suspicion is that they could be reused once and not be anywhere near their fatigue limits. Just a guess though. Not willing to be a guinea pig on that one.

Savington 12-03-2018 04:55 PM

Same. They are ~$6.50 per stud. At that price, I am entirely uninterested in finding out whether they last longer than the hubs.

FatKao 12-03-2018 10:17 PM

I've never even contemplated this would be a thing to not do. I asked ARP what they think. I'll post their response.

Edit:
Their response was nuanced and I'd rather not pass along bad info. If you're curious reach out to them and explain your specific situation.

I recently replaced the 18 year old front left hub on my car due to failed bearing, and bought the Premium Centrics, they look great but I did notice the seat machining is a teeny tiny bit larger than the stock ones:
(I sprayed a lot of brake cleaner and rubbed around the stud a bit, thats as clean as its going to get without major effort)

Now, would be interesting to compare to recently manufactured OEM hubs to see if only the factory 20 year old ones are that tiny bit thicker.
Regardless, should be a non issue.

I was curious so I picked up a spare set of NAPA proformer front hubs. Didn't end up needing them so I'm going to return them but before I do, I wanted to take some pics and add them to the list of hubs that may not be ideal for someone tracking their car. The machining doesn't look very good compared to the OEM ones.

They look better than some but not ideal. Not surprising give Proformer is Napa's budget line.

GotBoost 06-17-2019 05:03 PM

Yeah not ideal but not horrible. Probably could work for someone looking for a cheaper option though at under $60/ea. Certainly an option for a mainly street driven car I'm sure. I bought them then upgraded to those slick E30 hubs that Bronson M is making (link to pics of those).

Was this one over a year old?

More than once a year?

I just got a Centric Premium from CARID but was drop shipped from Centric parts in California. 406.45006 I thought this would be a solid choice from William Chen's video on YouTube he recommends these.

not sure what to think. great bearing NTN Japan made. The hub itself doesn't have large machine marks but the hub is pretty thin 5.34mm at center between studs. Thickness where stud goes in is 8mm.

The hub I pulled off not sure oem or old aftermarket (car hasn't been used/ raced in 10-15 years) measures 6mm at center between studs and 8mm at the studs.

themonkeyman 01-08-2020 12:13 PM

I doubt 0.6mm is gonna make much difference, especially in between the studs. At the end of the day they're still cast pieces that get machined to spec, so there's gonna be some mold shift batch to batch.
