Sparco Grid fitment
I have search wide about fitment of Sparco Grid 2 but seems like nobody has given it a try. Looking at the dimensions, the only one that is not ideal is shoulder support at 590mm. I have no door cards and the mighty popular Miata Cage roll cage. Would this fit? At $299 I am willing to give it a try if it fits.
Other options are: -OMP RS-PT2 at 560mm shoulder width it should fit. dirt cheap -Momo Daytona Evo NS 580mm shoulder width. more $ but lateral head restrain I didn't like the Spaco Circuit LF, bad side visibility.It looks like the Daytona or OMP HTE R400 have much better side visibility. Some important questions first
1. How much modding are you willing to do? 2. How important is it that you sit with the steering wheel centered in front of you? 3. How tall are you? 4. Do you want to pass the broomstick test? go look at the seat install thread. I installed an EVO2. Compair to those measurements and look at what I had to do to sit the way I wanted. After all of my work, the shoulder wings miss the door by about 1 mm. Good luck! |
My friend has a Sparco Grid in his NA8. I know another local who has it in his NC if anyone was curious.

Well I could shoehorn a church pew if I wanted to. We need specific details. I have seen plenty of "installs" that I wouldn't sit in. If you don't have any fab skills or money, installing a seat at a 20 degree angle and three inches to the left might be your only option. Is that acceptable to you?

It does hit the stock NA door cards still, mine made an imprint in it. Not a huge deal to me though, it's an awesome seat. |
Nobody has tried the grid because it's very new. came out last year.
According to Sparco's Sigh,t it's the same Size as the Pro2000. a seat that will fit into a miata. let me see if I can measure the two. I'll let you know. |

I can tell you 100% that it won't fit (at least with Garagestar brackets) without modification to the trans tunnel and/or removing /modding door cards. It's not even close, it took me about half a day to get it to sit decently in my NA8.

Making a miata fit most race seats will require some hammer persuasion. OP did state that he had no door cards, that will help too.

I measured from the inside of the lap belt guides, where one's hips would contact.
"Butt area" Pro 2000 - 14.5" Grid - 15.25" For the "Leg Opening" I measured from the inside of the thigh bolsters, closest to the front of the seat. Pro 2000 - 15" Grid - 14" with padding, 16" without padding Shoulder wing width Pro 2000 - 23.5" Grid - 23.5" Should belt guide height (Butt surface to top of belt guide holes) Pro 2000 - 25.5" Grid - 29" but the width at the bottom front (leg opening) for each seat is 19.25" (Pro 2000) and 19" (Grid). we know pro 2000's fit into miatas and it looks like the grid is a tad bit smaller in some places, Both seats should fit in a Miata. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...c755606423.png and a link to where to get one. |

1. How much modding are you willing to do? Car has no interior, no carpets, trans tunnel has been hammered but I don't know to what extend. Door has nothing, been emptied, its just the shell, only thing on the door side is the Miata Cage Roll bars. I think I am ok as far shoulder width, Centering the seat with steering wheel I think it's going to be harder to accomplish. 2. How important is it that you sit with the steering wheel centered in front of you? very. 3. How tall are you? 5-9" 4. Do you want to pass the broomstick test? yes Well monday will be decision day, hopefully the seat is comfortable. Really considering the momo daytona if its comfortable. |

Well after all I got a Momo Daytona. The Sparco grid 2, was good, but perhaps the bottom padding was not enough for my skinny frame. If you have enough meat in your rear end it should be a comfortable seat. Quite roomy for the actual seat dimensions.

I have one in the driver’s side. 2000 model, Planted low brackets. Hammered the trans tunnel, and got it as far to the right as I could. It was still in my door card enough to flex the back of the seat when I shut the door. Left a nice impression in the driver’s side door card. I have a set of early NA door cards I’m installing now, and it appears to not hit those. I’d love to get it .5-1” more to the right. I bought the Grid because it seemed to have larger inner dimensions while still having similar external dimensions to some other popular seats. I’m not small (5’9 200) but when I bought the seat I was around 240, and it fit me better. Having the removable/customizable pads helps, but I kinda wish I bought a smaller seat. Not to fit me better, but to fit better in the car. |
