Street-Mod Time Attack Build for #gridlife

A little background. I've ran with Gridlife for 3 years now. I picked up a stock 175,xxx mile '95 miata at the end of 2016 after driving a focus st for a bit over a year and a half. I drove it with a new set of avanti storms and star spec II tires my first time on track with it. that winter I had redone the bushings, went with the feal road race 441s that Ryan helped set up for me with new spring rates, along with sway bars and brakes. The motor has never been messed with other than a coolant reroute, CAI and a new exhaust from the manifold back. After many track days with it I began to buy and build some aero pieces for it. with the 200tw tires, my best time:
Pics from that build and the 2017 track year:

at the end of 2017 I purchased a '92 miata from Ryephiles. Link of his build here: https://www.miataturbo.net/build-thr...d-build-80222/
Please read through his build to know what the car has done :)
It was a deal I couldnt pass up or the price. I drove the car once on track to shake it down and see what I could do behind the wheel, with harry's track timer clocked off a 1:43.02 around gingerman raceway. almost 8 seconds faster than my 95' miata. I knew with the right stuff and seat time, I can get this car below the 1:40s at Gingerman. I entered the street-mod time attack for the 2018 year, building the aero on the car to help maximize my chances of being relevant in the class. at 230hp I know i am at a disadvantage, however I'm just trying to get myself better and have some fun.
I decided to build an air dam out of curagated abs plastic, much like Emilio did years back. Along with a splitter to meet the time attack regulations, 5" from the above view. I had reached out to the staff of gridlife (abrin and adam) to check if an airdam is legal to run along with a splitter. The answer i got was that I can run an air dam, and it will not count as a aero piece to the front, meaning I can still run the canards if needed. I am still wanting to add what professional awesome calls "splitter diffusers" to my splitter, I planned to make some out of aluminum or leftover abs if it is strong enough to hold it. My other plan is for splitter endplates, which i am open to hearing opinions on.
as far as the rear aero goes, I purchased the singular motorsports gt250 wing. after 4 weeks I am still waiting on the singular portions of the wing, however I have faith they will get to me soon. I also did a nice big bumper cut.
I also plan on purchasing a lightweight hardtop with lexan window before the season starts. I still have my laguna blue '95 maita, hoping to get my girlfriend out in it this year so she can get some track experience.
Let me know what else I can do, what changes should be made, or opinions on anything

Here is some aero updates. I'd like to reinforce the outside edges of the splitter and make endplates. The splitter is quite low, I can bring it up a an inch or so if needed. Custom endplates for the apr 250. Hardtop on the way from treasure coast.

You will need.

Airdaim/splitter/spats look good though. Should be very effective.

So I just went back and checked to Street Mod aero rules.

"Vehicles are permitted to run two significant aero modifications at the rear and one at the front, e.g., rear spoiler + diffuser + splitter."

Does the front air damn and splitter not count as 2 "significant aero mods" which is against the rules? Or do they consider it one piece? I have been mulling over this for a while as to what I am going to do on my car. GTA rules allow both.

Well the first mistake is asking anyone who is not actually GridLife. Email their tech inspector and get it in writing. I'm guessing that the front air dam is considered an aftermarket front bumper, which many street class cars have and compete with in time attack.

Official ruling from Abrin@grid.life

"Therein, we define significant aero as the "splitter, side skirts, diffuser, and rear wing. Side Skirts are not considered to be “significant” aero if they do not extend more than 2” past the exterior tire track width of the vehicle."
As such, an air dam will not count as significant aero. Please let us know if you have any additional questions, and we look forward to seeing you this year."

So air dam and splitter are kosher.

" Hi Adam and Abrin,

I had a question regarding front aero for street mod. I understand that the front splitter cannot exceed 5 inches.

"All aero must remain within 5” of the oem lines as viewed from above. Rear wings may be as wide as the distance between side mirrors."

I have a miata, wanted to know if both an air dam and splitter is legal for street mod? Would the air dam count as a canard or part of the splitter? pic for example:

The airdam as viewed from above does not change the body line, along with the splitter being 5" from the body from the above view. I hope my attempt of explaining my question is clear, thank you.

Best Regards,

Andrew

-----------------------

Andrew,

We do not view the air dam as part of the aero up front. These modifications should be fine, as long as they remain within 5" of body line.
