This is an example of a legal dyno plot. Dynojet 248 and 288 only. Must display dyno all weather station values active and SAE correction factor.
This particular blueprinted PTE nationals spec engine is running on E85 and detuned to make this power curve. We have exactly duplicated a 91 octane pump gas power curve from a typical 190+psi compression junkyard NB motor with I/H/E + ECU here. This power level can be easily attained with the following legal modifications:
Optionally, you may add Chinese made >535 gram forged connecting rods and double valve springs to give your engine some protection from accidental ”money shift” over rev. The rods and valve springs to not add power. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1379632651 |
Sounds exciting and fun...Too bad I am on the east coast...

A series I'm so excited about I'm willing to de-turbo, change motors, finish the cage, pull all my aero, and buy wheels/tires so I can play. :noes: :)

Oh hell yeah i'm getting into this... will probably have to wait for the 2014 season tho. Oh and for the peeps on the east coast, the cost of living is worth it... grew up in Philly and Pittsburgh and have no desire to go back haha.

A little tuning on Sonny's NA8 "Monty" this morning.
1st plot, bone stock, race exhaust bolted to OEM downpipe, CA91. 2nd plot same with these changes 21" aluminum intake pipe routed to passenger side with cone filter E85 MSPNP2 ECU I think all we need is a Racing Beat header to get this little BP05 overachiever to the 140whp cap. Good news for those out there with healthy NA8's that don't want to invest in an NB engine for SPM. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1379708216 |
any other changes to the fueling system, or just poured in e85 and tune?

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1379803418 Emilio, Are you guys using phenolic gaskets on the intake manifolds? Not necessarily on "Moty"... |
Ah fair enough. 21" just sounded too long for a passenger side intake.

Just got home. We all had an absolute blast. One 30 minutes rolling start race Saturday. I qualified on pole. Got a really bad start and was P3 exiting Sunset (13CCW).
Couldn't get past Moti for P2 so I just hounded him until he bobbled in Cotton Corners and I got by. Scooted up to Alex driving Enzo and again't couldn't get by. I was cooking my tires a bit so I settled down and stopped poking my nose here and there. Alex was defending and working his tires so I waited and hoped for the mistake. With about 3 to go he overshot Offramp and I tucked inside. Stayed away for the win. Sunday we inverted the grid for the first 15 minute race. Grant didn't race Saturday so he started last, I started just ahead of him. Got a good start and worked my way up to P2 Behind Aaron Bittermen at the finish. Then we did something kinda crazy (and way fun). On cool down lap we passed pit entrance and stopped at edge of track in finishing order. The last car (Grant) went past and rolled up the front straight to take his spot for the F1 style staggered grid for a standing start. Each driver went over the next so we started the 2nd race inverted from the one we just finished. So Aaron last, me again second to last. At the green Moti (P2) and I got the best starts. All kinds of wheelspin, banging 2nd gear at about 10mph with wheels still spinning. Awesome. Moti opened his visor to yell at Grant to skooch for ward while we were lining up. So when he snapped it shut, it fogged partially. That brief bit of partially obscured his vision going into Sunrise (T1) so he ran wide and had to lift while tracking out. That made everyone behind him check up. I just happened to be in the right spot and was the only guy that didn't have to lift. So I was P2 going into the esses on the first lap behind Alex. Chased Alex down, again couldn't get by so I waited for a mistake. He bobbled Bus Stop on lap 2 and I was able to get by for the win. Great battles all through the field. Best part of the weekend may have been Moti's BBQ for all the Miata Challenge and SuperMiata drivers and crew. Marinated tri tip, endless beer, Grilled bratwurst. Good times. From now on, MC and SPM are synonymous with the awesome BBQ sponsored by Blackbird Fabworx. You know the 'grillin is good when the first pics of the race weekend are of the food  https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1379962529 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1379962529 Grill Master Moti https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1379962529 |

Such an exciting weekend, I still get a rush thinking about the races!
And what a crazy rollercoaster these races were :D I got a rocket start in the first one, running down Alex and Emilio to take P1 into the first corner, lead the race for a couple laps, got passed by Alex, did the best I can to stay in P2 with Crusher filling up my mirrors. Got a little love tap that realigned one of my rear wheels and dropped from P2 to P6 within roughly 30 seconds consisting of a spinout followed by driving off in the next corner. Relearn the new alignment for a couple of laps and back to work, got by Ed and with half lap to go, Sonny who was in P4 and had a good gap spun out his car, squeezed by him and raced him to the checkered including a drag race and a photo finish. Race 2 I had a bad start and just couldn't find the groove for most of the race. I blame the BBQ from the night before for that ;) Race 3 I pulled another rocket start and had P1 into T1, which unfortunately I couldn't really see because of my visor being completely fogged up, ended up taking a wide line to be on the safe side because I couldn't see anything in my mirrors and didn't know who was where. Dropped to P4 and ended up chasing William for the next few laps. Got by William right after taking the white flag, pulled a good block on Aaron that followed me into the pass on William and ended up with P3. Would have placed better in this one if I could see anything after the start, but had a great time in the heat of the battle :D Erik Bruner got a bunch of awesome shots (as usual), here are some: Start of race 1, Creampuff coming from P3 to take the lead into the first turn https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1380050448 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1380050448 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1380050448 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1380050448 Dropped to P2 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1380050448 Dropped to P3 (Vanhap photo) https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1380050448 Dropped to P6 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1380050448 Came back for a drag race finish with Sonny, ending the race in P4 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1380050448 |
Since creampuff is racing in full aero gear, I assume the new regulations are starting with 2014?
very cool guys. I realllllllllyyyy wish we could have something like this on the east coast... |

At the end of the day, the lap times recorded in the race tell the story -
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1380066648 Everyone is right about equal, Alex is a bit more equal and Emilio is too equal and will be suspended from future races if he keeps posting illegal lap times ;) |

Just to be clear, I was just joking a bit.
The races were fantastic and we all had a great time, I don't think anyone felt that anyone else had any unfair advantage due to the car spec being different and at the end of the day the results seem to agree with that. Cheers! |
Standing start in car
Sundays standing start Supersprint (4 laps).
I made a few mistakes, but smaller ones than everyone else and inherited the lead. Fun stuff. |
I was wondering is the stock long block rule really necessary?
With max power cap and powerband cap, could engine with different pistons run for points? example) someone who built their engine for turbo with 8.6 compression ratio pistons. |

Lower compression is no advantage. We'll have some leeway for cars that already have engines. That's what the Power Area rule is for. But don't overthink it, if you are running our local series and have not built an engine yet, keep it simple. Heavy valve springs, forged rods for over rev protection, ACL race bearings. Otherwise stock. SuperMiata sample dyno plot | SuperMiata – Miata Challenge https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1380657911 |
