Team 949 Racing/Supermiata wins 3 classes @ Infineon

Team 949 Racing / SuperMiata won E1, E2 and E3 classes at the 3hr NASA enduro at Infineon Sept 30, 2012. The fourth car is owned by Trackspeed Engineering, finishing 2nd in E3. Our team cars finished 4-5-6-7 overall.

Crusher developed a clutch problem Saturday and had the have the trans pulled. The team got it repaired and ready for the enduro Sunday morning. Trans still not shifting well so I had to pop it into 6th momentarily on the 4-5 upshift. Kitty lost a halfshaft with about two laps to go in the enduro and limped in. Gordon cursing the clank and racket from the back end and willing it across the line. Rover and Enzo ran without a hitch.

A few videos from the race.
In this video we are at about the 1:30 mark during a FCY ( Full Course Yellow) We just happened to get bunched up with Kitty in front, Sonny Driving, me driving Crusher and William in Enzo just behind. At this point we're all leading, Enzo and Crusher by a few laps. Kitty is just behind the rest of the E3 field and is set to put a lap on them when the course goes green. The Blue/Orange NA ahead is RJ Racing, last years T25 winning E3 team, lying 3rd in E3 at this point in the race behind Rover.

We get the green and proceed to slice and dice through traffic. Each other helping set up passes. I have the biggest lead in Crusher so I hang back until Kitty and Enzo are clear. I even give Enzo a little tap going into 7 to help him past the blue E3 Saturn.

This video is me getting out of Crusher. We had put Crushers fuel stop as last priority in the schedule as it had the biggest lead and could afford to hyper mile for a few laps while Kitty and Enzo were keeping our two fueling teams busy. I as so preoccupied with hypermiling and keeping momentum that I absent mindedely forgot to loosen the belts, disconnect the coolsuit and get ready to hop out. At the last minute I remember and frantically unhook everything while negotiating the narrow pit entrance. Without ever planning or thinking about it, I disconnect the wheel before the car has come to a complete stop. What became an oh "" I forgot to unhook, becomes the fastest I have ever gotten out of the car in an enduro. I may delete the "steering wheel-off-while-still-moving" trick though. Weird how "ESCAPE!" instincts took over.

You guys should learn how to drive. You should drive the "barn door" line.

Nice work, manliness crew.

Some of the most fun I have ever had driving was sitting in that train of three kick ass team drivers, carving our way through the field, helping each other set up passes, protecting each other and just having fun while kinda dominating. I was just beaming. Called in over the radio to be aware of what was happening.

We don't always get so many things right and have such a great race but when we do, it's magic and definitely something to be savored.

Awesome guys!!

I actually raced my Spec Miata last weekend for the first time. It was awesome even though I was pretty much mid pack in a not so sorted car on old tires.

Me personally? Unfortunately probably not. THR (one of the teams I work with) should be there with two cars in E1.

I might be there in a different car, or one of those two cars, but I'm also supposed to be leaving for Japan around the 10th... :vash:

Thanks again to Emilio and his crew for servicing Rover during the pitstop. I had fun cruising Crusher to P4 overall and P1 in E1. :kitty:

Here's the first few laps from Rover's point of view. This is dicing through the E3 field while struggling a bit with a gearbox that may or may not be on its way out. The only car that caught us the entire race was Kitty.
