Crusher got a bit crushed. :(
Tough work ahead for the drivers without those center lights. |
Emilio and sonny have the 949 cars running 1 and 2. Hope crusher can make it through the night with minimal lights.
|
Are they in now or just out?
|
Just saw on the page Sonny in Enzo and Dean in Crusher...
Crusher is 11th and Enzo is 17th. |
Crusher is in 10th!!!
|
Current running order for E2 with number of laps complete:
051 Team Super Miata (309) 99 Team 949 Racing (302) 78 Team Grip Racing (292) 55 Team RDR 2 (286) 62 Team Hooverspeed 1 (259) 7 Team PHS Motorsports (202) |
11th and 16th overall, 2 min pit stop for Crusher.
|
According to Race Monitor, Crusher is leading E2 by 6 laps after nearly 12 hours. Sonny was driving Enzo (949's second car) and piloted them to P2. I'm not sure when Sonny finished, but they just yielded P2 to a team from Atlanta perhaps during a driver change. Nick is now driving Enzo. I'm following this through Twitter and the Race Monitor App on the iphone so it's hard to see exactly what is happening. Race Monitor has the following for E2 as of the time stamp on this post:
Crusher 11th overall 315 laps in Fast Lap 2:03.32 Car#102 Team Atlanta MS 15th overall 310 laps in Fast lap 2:03.69 Enzo 16th overall 310 laps in Fast lap 2:04.05 Team Miata Cage 18th overall 306 laps in fast lap 2:07.50 Edit: While I was typing this, Enzo pulled back into P2! |
Awesomeness.
|
From Emilio: Emilio: 3am.mechanical issues on Crusher. Fixd and both cars runng fast again. On deck. I go into enzo in 10 minutes for double stint.
Twitter for Android • 12/4/11 3:08 AM Wyatt reports Emilio is in crusher and sonny is in Enzo. Enzo is leading E2 by a lap over the Atlanta guys and crusher is in 3rd 6 laps back. The sun comes up on the west coast in less than 2 hours. Let's see how many tricks the boss has in the bag! |
William reports brake failure and 100mph off. Enzo is 12th and Crusher is 18th.
|
The app confirms Enzo leading E2 by 2 laps. The just turned their fast lap of 2:03.62 in lap 531 a few minutes ago. The app lists car #102 from Atlanta Motorsports in E2 also but another list I saw had them in a different class.
Crusher looks like it is still turning laps but is now 10 laps down. |
I don't know if William is piloting Crusher right now, but whoever is is driving angry. He just turned Crusher's fastest lap a few minutes ago at 2:03.13 and now has Crusher in P2 behind Enzo - and made up ~2 laps in the last hour. The sun is up on the left coast and it should be in the high 50s by the end of the race. I wonder what happens if the two cars are on the same lap in the 25th hour? :makeout:
|
Yup, someone is driving the shit out of Crusher! Team Atlanta Miata is E2, posted on nasafacebook.
|
The endurance radio feed sounds like audio effects for an 80s sci-fi movie. Are there normally commentators talking about the race?

OK there is a commentator on the Endurance Radio feed again.

Just over 3 hours left. |
Enzo was supposed to be the second car too - Crusher got all the a-list attention. Wytt's tweet from around 30 minutes ago said Oscar Jackson is running Crusher and Emilio is in Enzo. The $4.99 I spent on the Race Monitor App is the best 5 bucks I've spent in a long time.
Oh, and for the record... Emilio and Enzo passed the E0 leader and are now two laps up. 949s E2 cars are now ahead of everything except the ES cars. How's that for some fun shit! :fawk: |
NASA needs to have a race like this at TWS, or even better, at COTA, assuming that ever happens
|
Soviet - where are the Grassroots Motorsports 25 hr. pictures on their site? I looked but couldn't find them.
|
nasa has had 4-8hr. enduro's every year at TWS. not sure if it happened this year though. i know they said it wouldn't happen if there wasn't enough entries. that shit's expensive too.

This shitty video feed mouths my hole.
|
About 75 minutes to go and Enzo has a comfortable 6.5 lap lead. There is an epic battle going on between Crusher and the Atlanta team for P2. They are on the same lap and have changed positions at least twice in the last half hour. The last tweet said Dean was driving Enzo but I'm not sure who is in Crusher. Absolutely epic battle!

I did a few 8 hour races on bikes and that is indeed a long race. It's harder to do with less than 5 riders (max allowed in CMRA). But it is not as hard to do vehicle wise since bikes are so insanely durable. Just feed it tires and fuel, and keep an eye on the oil level. |
4 minutes left!!!

Congrats to the teams! and thanks for the updates everyone.

Yeah I know. I think a 24 hour would be cool, but if NASA cannot draw a large enough grid for an 8 hour, then filling a 24 hour would be harder unless it had a national draw. COTA maybe, TWS maybe not.

Whoever was in Crusher almost caught the AMG team but spun in corner 3, a couple of others spun in 3 after Crusher. I wonder if something got spilled? Awesome job with that 8th overall in a 99 Miata:)
|
I'm very curious about some of the details. For some reason, nobody has answered any text messages or updated any blogs. What? Are they tired or something? :hustler:
|
I spoke to Deano earlier. He sounded wiped. I doubt we will hear from Emillo or anyone else until tomorrow.
In a nut shell he said the team performed like rock stars. He could not stop talking about how well the group worked together all the way across the board. |
One of the fuelers is an MSM guy and posted on the other site. He's got some war stories and several really cool pics.
http://www.mazda-speed.com/forum2/in...c,24956.0.html That should hold you over until the drivers wake up from their comas sometime Monday... |
What do you guys want to know ?
We are all traveling home now. Most of us live 10-12 hours away. Enzo got 8th overall. Beat all E0, E1, E2 and E3. Only ES cars were faster. It also won fastest sub 2 liters award. |
Oh I don't know William...everything! This is like when a buddy in your group of friends got laid by a cheerleader in highschool. we want every detail. A book would be nice.
|
Broken caliper and Carbotech melt down? Been there, done that.
|
Our team is the shit. I am still trying to piece together the string of mechanical failures we endured from 1am to 2:15am, so I will post a writeup tomorrow.
Seriously, this team dominated. 90% of the crew was doing their first 24+hour endurance race and we drilled 30+ pit stops with virtually no mistakes, performed 10 hours of shop work in 90 minutes at 2am in 45* weather with a car that is just-off-track hot, changed 4 tires in under a minute on six separate occasions, and were still on their game when Crusher blew up its second RF hub of the weekend at 7am on Sunday. I cannot express my pride in how this team came together and performed this weekend. We executed every task with the precision of a team with 10x the experience and we did it over and over and over and over again, whether it was our first tire swap at 6pm on Saturday, replacing a hub and brake rotor on Enzo at 1:30am Sunday, or doing a hub on Crusher at 7am Sunday. I am proud to have served as the head mechanic. We earned the shit out of our E1 win. More tomorrow after 12 hours of sleep. |
Special thanks to savington, our head mechanic. He won the race for us, not the drivers. It was his super fast mechanical fixes that kept the car on track.
|
^^ and you dominated every class out there except the 'real' race cars in ES/ESR - and finished ahead of several of those. A lost wheel? Flat sided brake disk? Front bumper held on by duct tape? Rear cover gone? Fucking epic! :bowrofl:
|
Williams car is going to cross Barret Jackson in 20 years for 250k if stories are worth the big bucks :)
|
I simply can not wait to see the airing on vs... road trip next year - I'll be your coffee bitch :)
|
Awesome work guys, I can only imagine the feeling of accomplishment let alone victory!

Congrats to emilio and the whole crew. although i had no doubt you would win, as the hours went on, i started to remember just how much shit can happen in a 1-2hr. race. x100 for a 25hr. race. |
Someone caught the video of the wheel coming off. The areo work you guys did on the car really transformed it. Doesn't even look like a miata anymore.
http://failblog.files.wordpress.com/...r-job-fail.gif I am really impressed with having a wheel come off, spending the time it takes to fix brakes/hub and still doing as well as you guys did. A+ for organization and everyone being at the top of their game. I am incredibly jealous and if it were closer I would be organizing a team right now for next year. |
I'll eventually write up a detailed post so long it will make your eyes bleed to read it all, but for now, I'll just say HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! We freakin' did it!
Emilio and William get 100% of the credit for assembling a team of great people who worked well together. William was right when he said that the battle was truly won in the pits and paddock. Drivers can make up only seconds a lap - crew guys can make up minutes. And they did! I couldn't be prouder to be associated with this team. We had crowds gather to watch our 1 minute tire changes and lightning fast driver changes and fuel stops. That trophy for "First under 2.0L" is the really HUGE accomplishment, here. Beating every single E0, E1, E2 and E3 car is sweet icing on the class victory. Awesome. Truly awesome. |

The last 30 minutes of the race were enthralling. Enzo (William's car) was comfortable in the lead, but the driver got unleashed to chase down the AMG car for 2nd. After 24:30 of racing, he was driving the wheels off the car. We were borderline on fuel and hadn't had the chance to check the tires for a while, but it was time to GO. Unfortunately, with about 3 laps to go the driver got a stumble on turn 14 and dove straight into the pits. We gave him a few gallons and sent him out for the final lap, but there was no way we were going to catch up then. No spin in 3, that didn't happen - although I think he did have a moment that cost about 2s in 9. He was within 1.8 seconds of the AMG car through turn 5 by my stopwatch.
We made a few tweaks to the fuel system during practice, and had tested Crusher all the way down to 0.25 gallons of fuel without starvation - I don't know how low we could actually get. We were burning about 0.3 gallons of fuel per lap. So just how empty WAS that tank? We didn't put the lights on until dark, that's why there are photos of Crusher with nose damage and no lights. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1323107735 I'm really proud to be part of this team. I hope someone got video of those tire changes, they were great. And the 1 am madness was a huge rush - as soon as we finished with one car, we'd sprint to the other side of the pits as the other showed up with a problem. Yeehah. Then, as soon as the race was over, we found out we had 2 hours to pack up an enormous amount of gear... I'm really glad I was a part of this. Not just because of the result, but because of the experience of working alongside the rest of the crew. There was a lot of talent in those pits. |
