Whoever was in Crusher almost caught the AMG team but spun in corner 3, a couple of others spun in 3 after Crusher. I wonder if something got spilled? Awesome job with that 8th overall in a 99 Miata:)

I'm very curious about some of the details. For some reason, nobody has answered any text messages or updated any blogs. What? Are they tired or something? :hustler:

k24madness 12-04-2011 11:06 PM

I spoke to Deano earlier. He sounded wiped. I doubt we will hear from Emillo or anyone else until tomorrow.

In a nut shell he said the team performed like rock stars. He could not stop talking about how well the group worked together all the way across the board.

mr_hyde 12-04-2011 11:14 PM

One of the fuelers is an MSM guy and posted on the other site. He's got some war stories and several really cool pics.

That should hold you over until the drivers wake up from their comas sometime Monday...

What do you guys want to know ?
We are all traveling home now. Most of us live 10-12 hours away.

Enzo got 8th overall. Beat all E0, E1, E2 and E3. Only ES cars were faster. It also won fastest sub 2 liters award.

jacob300zx 12-05-2011 12:14 AM

Oh I don't know William...everything! This is like when a buddy in your group of friends got laid by a cheerleader in highschool. we want every detail. A book would be nice.

Broken caliper and Carbotech melt down? Been there, done that.

Savington 12-05-2011 01:50 AM

Our team is the shit. I am still trying to piece together the string of mechanical failures we endured from 1am to 2:15am, so I will post a writeup tomorrow.

Seriously, this team dominated. 90% of the crew was doing their first 24+hour endurance race and we drilled 30+ pit stops with virtually no mistakes, performed 10 hours of shop work in 90 minutes at 2am in 45* weather with a car that is just-off-track hot, changed 4 tires in under a minute on six separate occasions, and were still on their game when Crusher blew up its second RF hub of the weekend at 7am on Sunday.

I cannot express my pride in how this team came together and performed this weekend. We executed every task with the precision of a team with 10x the experience and we did it over and over and over and over again, whether it was our first tire swap at 6pm on Saturday, replacing a hub and brake rotor on Enzo at 1:30am Sunday, or doing a hub on Crusher at 7am Sunday. I am proud to have served as the head mechanic. We earned the shit out of our E1 win.

More tomorrow after 12 hours of sleep.

bellwilliam 12-05-2011 02:12 AM

Special thanks to savington, our head mechanic. He won the race for us, not the drivers. It was his super fast mechanical fixes that kept the car on track.

mr_hyde 12-05-2011 02:18 AM

^^ and you dominated every class out there except the 'real' race cars in ES/ESR - and finished ahead of several of those. A lost wheel? Flat sided brake disk? Front bumper held on by duct tape? Rear cover gone? Fucking epic! :bowrofl:

Williams car is going to cross Barret Jackson in 20 years for 250k if stories are worth the big bucks :)

I simply can not wait to see the airing on vs... road trip next year - I'll be your coffee bitch :)

Awesome work guys, I can only imagine the feeling of accomplishment let alone victory!

lol, carbotech hater. i got $$ says same thing happened to hawk brakes and probably many others.

Congrats to emilio and the whole crew. although i had no doubt you would win, as the hours went on, i started to remember just how much shit can happen in a 1-2hr. race. x100 for a 25hr. race.

rharris19 12-05-2011 12:05 PM

Someone caught the video of the wheel coming off. The areo work you guys did on the car really transformed it. Doesn't even look like a miata anymore.

I am really impressed with having a wheel come off, spending the time it takes to fix brakes/hub and still doing as well as you guys did. A+ for organization and everyone being at the top of their game. I am incredibly jealous and if it were closer I would be organizing a team right now for next year.

deano 12-05-2011 12:19 PM

I'll eventually write up a detailed post so long it will make your eyes bleed to read it all, but for now, I'll just say HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! We freakin' did it!

Emilio and William get 100% of the credit for assembling a team of great people who worked well together. William was right when he said that the battle was truly won in the pits and paddock. Drivers can make up only seconds a lap - crew guys can make up minutes. And they did! I couldn't be prouder to be associated with this team. We had crowds gather to watch our 1 minute tire changes and lightning fast driver changes and fuel stops. That trophy for "First under 2.0L" is the really HUGE accomplishment, here. Beating every single E0, E1, E2 and E3 car is sweet icing on the class victory.

Awesome. Truly awesome.

I am game to road trip out there with you. We can make coffee, get donuts, and be just like unpaid interns.

The last 30 minutes of the race were enthralling. Enzo (William's car) was comfortable in the lead, but the driver got unleashed to chase down the AMG car for 2nd. After 24:30 of racing, he was driving the wheels off the car. We were borderline on fuel and hadn't had the chance to check the tires for a while, but it was time to GO. Unfortunately, with about 3 laps to go the driver got a stumble on turn 14 and dove straight into the pits. We gave him a few gallons and sent him out for the final lap, but there was no way we were going to catch up then. No spin in 3, that didn't happen - although I think he did have a moment that cost about 2s in 9. He was within 1.8 seconds of the AMG car through turn 5 by my stopwatch.

We made a few tweaks to the fuel system during practice, and had tested Crusher all the way down to 0.25 gallons of fuel without starvation - I don't know how low we could actually get. We were burning about 0.3 gallons of fuel per lap. So just how empty WAS that tank?

We didn't put the lights on until dark, that's why there are photos of Crusher with nose damage and no lights.

I'm really proud to be part of this team. I hope someone got video of those tire changes, they were great. And the 1 am madness was a huge rush - as soon as we finished with one car, we'd sprint to the other side of the pits as the other showed up with a problem. Yeehah.

Then, as soon as the race was over, we found out we had 2 hours to pack up an enormous amount of gear...

I'm really glad I was a part of this. Not just because of the result, but because of the experience of working alongside the rest of the crew. There was a lot of talent in those pits.
