Track Car Parts Replacement Program

This post got me thinking https://www.miataturbo.net/wheels-ti...8/#post1393214 I come from racing where we changed certain parts routinely because we knew it was risking a DNF not to do so. Assuming full sized road course, 150-200 UTQG tire, how often would you replace: Ball joints - ? hours Front Hubs - ? hours Rear Hubs - ? hours check Sub frames - ? hours check Control arms - ? hours Assuming full sized road course, 50-100 UTQG tire, how often would you replace: Ball joints - ? hours Front Hubs - ? hours Rear Hubs - ? hours check Sub frames - ? hours check Control arms - ? hours What other parts should be considered for programmed replacement or careful checking (crack test or visual inspection) and after how many hours? I guess wheels should be in there...what else? Of course there are an almost infinite number variables, but this forum has a lot of experienced track racers that it would be great to hear from. Might also reduce the number of posts in the hub failure thread...(?) Cheers. |

subscribed for thoughts and anyone else's process..........my contribution is that i tend to replace when failing or gut instinct....stories of failing hubs etc. not withstanding.
Biggest issue here is that we tend to own mx5 / miata's for reduced cost reasons....a pro active maintenance process is probably a step beyond our reach....unless by profession eg. Emilio, Savington etc. I might be wrong and am interested to hear otherwise. I do try and keep spares on hand. |
Well, it's obvious. All these parts last SOO long on a miata, no one has ever even bothered with calculating out a life-span for each. :rofl:
Like mentioned before, we would really be leaning on racing shops(949, TSE, OPM, LRR, etc) for this info. I think several of us shade-tree mechanics(like myself) usually run across failing components in our typical pre/post-race checks and replace them. TL;DR - I wish I had some data to offer. |
