What is the best option for brakes for someone who is running a 13'' wheel? I basically got some panasports given to me, and want to run them. But I will be tracking my car and need some kind of proper brakes. AFAIK the willwoods with the corrado rotor have no chance of working. Is my best bet the 1.8L brakes (don't even know if these will fit!)?

1.8L brakes fit under most 13" wheels, but I've heard (and read) that the Panasports are an exception.

Great... what about something like Aero's or Diamonds? I got tires with them to and don't want them to go to waste. The guy I bought all my turbo **** from ran a Miata at our track and found he was quicker on his 13's than the 15's.

I had a set of 13" panas (old school magnesium ones, don't remember the offset unfortunately) anyway, they fit over 1.8 brakes BUT....the wheels wouldn't turn, it was really weird, so I popped them back off and took an angle grinder to each caliper for about 5 minutes just shaved enough off so everything had enough clearance and sprayed them with some black high-temp paint. Hardest part about 13's is finding decent street tires.

Just throw a set of carbotech xp10 on the front xp8s on the rear with the 1.6 stuff, some 255 hoosiers all away around and go to town.

You think my 1.6 stuff will be enough? It's not a super fast track and other than running competitively here I will also do hill climb where brake fade isn't as much of an issue. But I do plan to do some HPDE stuff down in Portland and Seattle and need something that will hold up.

Keep in mind, I am also going to be t-charged with a *hopeful* 220-230whp.

If you know you're going to be upgrading the wheels and eventually brakes, buy the Porterfields that Goodwin does sell, still a great pad for $64 less last time I checked. Planet miata has Hawk blues for $23 less than the Goodwin's Porterfields, but you need to call them, and I always assumed that price hadn't been updated lately. And they eat rotors.

i run 13x8 diamonds. only had to shave the excess casting from the calipers on my '95. so 1.8 (non-sport) brakes with carbotechs/race fluid/s.s. lines would be best under 13's. it literally took about 20 sec. with a flapper disc on a grinder to "fix" the fitment.

I autocrossed a set of Panasport 13x8.5 with 5" backspacing, and they fit fine on top of the 1.8 liter brakes I had on my car.

If you are serious about track, dump the 13" wheels. Stock brakes will let you down eventually, no matter what pad/fluid you use.

I've been thinking about that. I may go with some 15's and run the wilwood setup.

Considering this is a track only car, it seems like the right choice.

sorry to resurect an old thread but ive also found my car to be tremendously faster with the 13x8's im running rota RB (wantanabe knockoffs) and im debating on doing the 1.8 brake swap.. i figure the 1.8 brakes with hawk dtc60's front, hawk dtc40's rear and brand new oil + lines will suffice

i just need to see if they clear.

I have a set of 13x8 Rota RBs that I use for autocross, so I can tell you they DO fit over the 1.8 brake caliper. It's close - you can't have any wheel weights on the inside of the wheel or they will contact the caliper, but I just took them off.

In my backwards autocross brake world, I managed to fit a 10.5" rotor under 13" wheels by using a custom rotor hat and caliper brackets with Wilwood Powerlite calipers. They're not track tested, but are definately worry free at the autocross.
