Default TTC discussion

After discussion with Emilio in the TTD thread and more in emails today, I've decided the way to build the car 90% of the way I want and have a class that I could be mildly competitive in with many driving.......TTC.

Here is my plan, feel free to offer suggestions, ridicule, etc.

Get my minimum comp weight as low as possible, email Greg for whp limit with my comp weight for a TTC base classing.

205 R6 = -3
949 BGK = +7 (ordered XIDAs today with 800/500)
LSD = +3
EP dam and rear wing = +7

This leaves me 2 points, so not enough for a splitter or a 6 spd, but maybe "hole" the rear bumper.......... or ?

Engine plan is a VVT, deck the head .060" and add ST springs so I can raise the rev limit, squaretop, I/H/E, Brain built MS.

If I can get my comp weight low enough this should be enough motor to get to my whp limit.

By my math, you're left with 5 points, which is enough for a 6-speed (+3). The last 2 are hard to really make a dent with, so I'd probably do brakes.

FFS, Hi, I'm a frittata. Maybe I'm leaving something off that I talked about with Emilio earlier, have to check when I get to work since that's the account I was using. I was thinking the plan we came up with left with me 2.

So you think the 6spd and brakes would be more beneficial than more aero or ? Unfortunately 225s aren't an option unless I ditch aero and go a different route.

6speed vs splitter will depend almost entirely on what tracks you run. Probably would require A-B testing to determine the difference in speed. Either way, you have room for brakes (I can't think of a better place to spend only 2 points off the top of my head).

Quick side question, only because I'm doing this calculations in my head in prep for my car, what is the speed difference between lap record pace in PTC/PTD/PTE and a mid pack car? Lap records being set by guys like Emilio and Sav in the SoCal region, same as mine.

Is it safe to assume the power I'd give up to get a TTD base class (to get more modification points) would make the extra points moot?

I don't think more points are a good idea with a dyno class, no.

Am I correct in understanding that if you are dyno reclassed you skip the Weight and Engine sections of the Classification Form?

5-speed with 4.77 R&P and splitter is cheaper. Giken if you want to feel like a cheater, yet remain within the rules.

Brakes for peace of mind and extreme masculinity. After my education from Emilio and Sonny, the BBK is an invaluable part of my car. First of all, it's cheaper all the way around and it's already paid for itself in pads and rotors over the years. More importantly, I am doing insane **** on the brake pedal, with a degree of accuracy that's a little bit ego-intoxicating.

It's just wacky. You see the brakes light up on the TT3 cars, you stay on the throttle for another 100-200' with the passenger in the seat crawling into a ball and crying, then you turn-in way earlier than the TT3 car running the trog-line, and your Miata just slips-into the apex at somewhere near the same point as the Vette/Mustang/M3 and suddenly that 500' advantage he built is gone. You can do this with stock brakes, but it's a ton easier and you have more confidence on the gigantic brakes. That's the stuff that makes me smile now. The turbo stuff was great, don't get me wrong, but what Emilio and Andrew brought to market for us is the sweet-stuff that lets you showcase your skill.

Basically, 5-speed, 4.77, brakes, splitter, Crush-loc wing for TTC. Cut the aero for TTD and go to the limit on hp/lb. On a related note, I have to ballast the car now that I lost 27lb on the bicycle, lol.

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like this is the plan:

205 R6 = -3
949 BGK = +7 (ordered XIDAs today with 800/500)
LSD = +3 (4.77 R&P and keep 5 speed)
EP dam, splitter, rear wing = +10
SuperMiata 11" front and TSE 10" rear BBK = +2

I know it will take a ton of seat time and coaching to make this any kind of competitive setup for TTC, but it should be quick, reliable, and a blast to drive for TTC and HPDE as well.

I'm not exactly sure yet. Since eventually I'll do a VVT swap and dyno reclass (I'll probably still be running the girly 1.6 next year) my plan is to:

Get the car as light as possible, determine minimum comp weight, then email Greg and ask for a whp limit at 2xxx min comp weight.

What kind of lbs/hp limits are you seeing Greg come back with for Miata's in TTC or TTD for that matter? I know there is a type of penalty from the class max for Miata's typically.

Lots of good info regarding that here:

nasaforums.com • View topic - TTC or TTD for my Miata?

From page 2 of the thread:

1993 Miata, supercharged
161 rwhp / 2395 lbs MCW, TTD base class
185 rwhp / 2395 lbs MCW, TTC base class

1999 Miata, turbocharged
176 rwhp / 2570 lbs MCW, TTD* base class
181 rwhp / 2600 lbs MCW, TTD* base class
204 rwhp / 2570 lbs MCW, TTC* base class
213 rwhp / 2570 lbs MCW, TTC** base class
223 rwhp / 2570 lbs MCW, TTB base class

And this:

My 1993 Miata was dyno re-classes by Greg with the following requirements:
TTD 161rwhp at 2395 lbs OR
TTC 185 rwhp at 2395 lbs

Ideally I'd like to get my min comp weight down around 2300 minimum, but the lighter the better since I'll only be on 205s.

for me:

90 with a 99 swap =
TTD - 2220 at 145hp (currently at 2220/125 untuned in TTD and sitting 2nd place in my region)

or down the road:
TTC (with F/I) - 2340 at 181hp

i asked greg for a hypothetical reclass for F/I at that weight in TTC and thats what he gave me.

im debating whether to go F/I or not. im sure i could hit somewhere in the middle of those numbers if i actually got a tune on the car. i have a squaretop sitting here, too lazy to install at the moment

I need to serious like Trey and drop some weight off me, in a perfect world I'd have a min comp weight sub-2200.
